I have yet to attend school (June 18th)but I am happy that I chose to apply to a few companies at this stage of the process. Regardless of the perfection of your work history or driving record, obtaining records are not as easy as I was led to believe. I am no longer living in the state I am currently residing in and obtaining a ten year driving record online was not available to me and as I learned it required a nice drive back to my home state. I also learned my current employer uses a third party to verify employment and this particular company does not accept that method so I was off to my local IRS office to obtain old tax records. If you have not been good at record keeping as I was not, this process could potentially take a few weeks if an office is not nearby and an order through snail mail is required. It also takes a while for the company to verify your background and complete your application and place you into an orientation. I am glad this company verifies all paperwork prior to arrival as I would not have been able to obtain all these things once there and I would have been sent home. I just thought this was important to share if any of you are holding off applying for jobs till you are done with school.

I used to be horrible at that until a few years ago. Purchased a home and it was interesting to say the least. The only bad part of the whole process was chasing down forms and records. I was saved though by Knight Transportation. It was a long shot but I logged back into their payroll system long after quitting them and lo and behold my pay info was still there. I was able to get the W-2's I needed for the finance company.

But yes a simple folder for all of that works fine. Doesn't even have to be organized just keep your employment info, tax records, and pay info if your company does not do that electronically and of course anything you deem important.

YEP I learned the hard way too, so now I keep everything. Problem is it can take a couple days to find what I need!:biggrin_25523:
