Who said anything about sticking with CRE. You missed my point driver, the man asked about schools. I'm saying despite their reputation and I'm well aware of it is that their school is really good. You just have to move on once you get your CDL, as I did. You won't make any money at CRE, that I'll agree with you there. And I find it amusing that you will slam CRE but not a word about Prime who in my opinion are just as bigger set of crooks as I've ever seen.
Opinions are like ####holes, everybody has got one.
    Good luck

    jdotson and mje Thank this.

They are all crooks indeed! It's the nature of the business. Choosing this path as a stepping stone is the way to think about it. Get you CDL and a few years of experience under your belt and apply what you have learned into a business of your own. At the least you will have the knowledge to know when you are being abused...I have enjoyed my journey with Prime but I looked at it as an investment into myself. I have my own business now. It's all good!

Thanks all for the replys. I have my CDL and after I graduated in Phoenix I chose a company to go with, went through their orientation and spent three weeks out with a trainer. In that time I had about 60 hours behind the wheel learning the 13 speed and Qualcomm. Most of that time was open road and about 6 hours of city traffic. In that time I had never backed up the trailer. I was expected to solo out within a day or two. When I solo out I want to feel confident and be a safe driver not just for me but for everyone around me! I am looking for a company that will invest the time in training a student so when they solo out they have a decent amount of hours under their belt that would produce a safe and confident driver. Oh yea and a driver that can back up a tractor trailer (small point).

Good on you for wanting to be properly trained and prepared.
That attitude may well save lives.

All you have to do is advise a trainer at Prime of your needs. You can stay with your trainer and run team as long as you need to. No sweat. Trainers are always looking for students who need extra time on the road and practice backing. Means more money for them. Especially the leased truck trainers. Just show up the trainers are on the hunt for new meat. Meet a few trainers and gauge if you mesh then hit the road for 6 months if need be.

Well my criticism of Prime should be put into context if you so wish. I'm sure they have an excellent thorough training program, even though I haven't seen any evidence otherwise but as a company I wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole, in the real world of making money as a businessman. I'm referring to the old days when they pretty much reamed the O/O with their ridiculously high truck payments plus all the other stuff that stacked the cards against the drivers who had no chance of making $$.
now that they've changed their tune somewhat and introduced company drivers they have a chance if nothing else, of making $$
bottom line is that whoever you go with to train every single company has its good and bad points and furthermore if you have the time and patience then a very good avenue to get excellent CDL training is through your local community college. I almost went that route many years ago but the downside of it was that it took 2-3 mths to do it and at that time I needed income pretty quickly. Plus their fees are very reasonable unlike some independent schools that charge an arm and a leg and you only get a few days of tuition. Not a good deal.
whoever you go with, you just have to do your checking around. I've no regrets going with CRE but unfortunately they use the graduates of their school as slave labor and you'll be lucky if you will make any $$$.
as I recall I started off with them at 21c mile and I wasn't even getting consistent miles, so I moved on.
    Good luck.
