Yea it'd be a good gig for a solo driver that lives in their running area. They run all skinny bunk petes but drivers are home weekends an some a couple nights during the week as well.

I was under the impression US mail is done by contracting it out. I only met a few but they were all contractors. They were in day cabs too

Yeah most of the trucks I've seen have been outside carriers but they still have to pay the US mail hourly rate plus health and welfare ..

Even over the road US mail carriers get hourly pay but its based on a route .. So you can't just pick your nose and waste time because you get the same pay regardless based on the route dictated

Perdue Chicken out of Salisbury MD paid 53cpm plus 12.50 hr on duty time (as of 2 years ago). Take 53cents times your miles driven for the day and subtract your drive time from your 14 hour day clock and the remainder would be paid $12.50/hour. Say you drove 9 hours (say 500 miles x 53cpm) =265.oo plus 5 hrs @ 12.50=62.50 regardless if you had 5 hours of on duty time or not. 327.50 for the day. They probably have raised their pay since I was there. Reason I left? Night runs primarily and I couldn't train my body to sleep days. Not after 55 years of sleeping nights.
