That’s what I was thinking. Will be going from North Carolina to Maryland. And with a 53’ trailer and a 60’ load I will be under all the overhang laws that I have read.

Only major thing all states in question is the 41’ kingpin to center of rear most axle. If I slide rear axle up to closed position I will be under the 41’ and with a 29k lb load I won’t be overweight on axles.
-
From my research I find that correct, from the guide, without digging into each states website.
You may want to check provision sheets for specific flag or lighting requirements. -
No, that is a state by state thing too. When the feds required the states to allow 53' on STAA routes, they threw states a bone in that they could limit 53' trailers by making them comply with a KingPin to Rear Axle KPRA. Those that do are not necessarily 41' and even many of those don't enforce it. If they did, there is no reason for sliders. They could just fix the axles.

I think most states have a 3 foot overhang from the front bumper, before you need to permit it, this is mostly for auto carriers, boat haulers, log loaders, cranes, etc, etc.
As far as loading your trailer, you have to check every state, it would be nice if all were uniform, but that will never be. -
How much are you planning on hanging off the front? If all of the 60’ load is going to hang off the back that’s 7 foot of rear overhang. Most sliding rear axle flats will have 40’ KPRA with a 30” kingpin setting and a 54” spread between axles. That leaves 10.5’ of trailer behind the rear axle, 27” from rear axle to center of group plus your 7’ of rear overhang. That’s 19.75’ to the end of the load behind the center of the rear group. May have the trailer axles overloaded if you close the tandem.
The center of the trailer capacity will be close halfway between the kingpin and center of rear group for even loading. With a 30” kingpin and 40’ kpra that’s 21.5’ from the front of the trailer. So a 60’ load will be 8.5’ behind center. If I had your empty axle weight we could figure out pretty close to your actual loaded weights.
hopefully you can understand this post, I think I confused myself at least once!randomname Thanks this.
