Here's some logic for you to ponder
If trucking is over regulated, yet also overly corrupt, then industries that have less regulation must have more corruption, yet we never hear of any other industries with as much corruption as trucking, yeah sometimes we see some news, like Enron or something, but over all it seems everyone else is pretty clean right?
So maybe regulation creates corruption?

Regulation is simply a way for one group to control any potential competition's efforts to take over.

You think it is corrupt now, back in my day, a guy named Jimmy Hoffa, who now resides in a 55 gal. drum under the Jersey Pike, found out. Back then, you kept a low profile, and did what you were told. While I do think trucking is over regulated, it's a culmination of what we screwed up, and we haven't seen the half of it. I don't think our society deals with the corrupt trucking companies like we did, back then, there was just too much freight to haul, and was perfect for anyone with a truck. Crookedness was rampant, and we paid the price for that in over regulation. Now, as the world continues to slide, there may again be a time, when an outlaw could make a go of it again. Thing there is, electronics will find you pretty fast. Can't win, don't try.

Lol at saying trucking is “over regulated”. It is literally one of the easiest industries to enter with an astonishingly low barrier ($300 and some insurance). It’s not corruption, it’s just the fact that when you open the floodgates and make it so anyone with a pulse can operate a truck and get authority then you get what we have. And any time there’s a mention of using technology, like having a transponder tied to your registration to make sure insurance and everything else is current, OOIDA is one of the ones that cries the loudest.
There’s not enough man power to enforce the current regs and keep up with the new companies popping up. And you can simply re-regulate the industry when it comes to granting authority.brian991219, AModelCat, Sirscrapntruckalot and 2 others Thank this. -
Show us some examples with details because there isn’t that I can see.
over-regulated? Try the aircraft industry, should we be like them?
the regulations other than HOS is our own making, we are a lazy group who is in it for the money, drivers have gotten so lazy that they piss and **** at the fuel pump.
we deserve these regulations and if we want to do something about it, it starts with getting rid of crap drivers and forcing the fmcsa to enforce their regulations on carriers, make it a hell of a lot harder to get an authority and hold owners totally accountable.brian991219, hope not dumb twucker, Bean Jr. and 5 others Thank this. -
Regulations are here because we truckers don't act right. Some are also in existence as a money grab. I'm inclined to believe every industry is "over-regualated." Gotta have protections from lawsuits and the works.

Over regulated? Look up trucking prior to July 1, 1980.

The only industry whose regulations are enforced by armed inspectors. There is no other job where you are liable for fines for any of hundreds of offences, many of which are not a safety issue, just a money grab
