They didn't raise them considerably, they doubled them, more than size and weight they even doubled the cost of vending machine tax stamps. I know the cost of OK permits, average one a week.

I use a service and if I have something difficult I use the walk in office. I pay the service $15 per permit, takes only a few minutes unless talking about family or NASCAR. I even pay to get NM and AZ, beats standing in line for 30 min at the port.

Talking to one of the girls at the OK permit office she mentioned that loads across the panhandle had fallen off, when I explained that when it went from $750 to $1500 to move a base section across that it was cheaper to go out of Texas to NM then to CO even with the extra miles. Her respone" We never thought about that"

I have friends that get all their permits direct from states, but for me saving a few dollars isn't worth the time and hassle.

Thank you everyone for your input. I spent $38.50 on service charge from comdata for each state they processed. I have read your posts and they were helpful. I know i'm at least not going to go with comdata because they didn't exactly take the hassle out. they spelled company name with a space where it wasn't supposed to be. of course the state couldn't permit to a company that couldn't be found in database and cost me a perfectly good day to run the load. I appreciate all of your enthusiasm and knowledge on this subject.

Get with Buds Permit service, fax them your information as needed on the permit and I never had issues with them.

if ordered for yourself most states require you to send copy of insurance, some dont even do that. i ordered mine direct from all the states except ones that require a permit service for some reason. a good many can be filled out online and some have standard forms to be filled out and faxed back. if you order a good amount its worthwhile, i used to order multiple permits each day for 8 trucks running oversize.

but honestly if only a load every now and then, not worth time just use a permit service. its not hard ordering your own, just time consumed to set each state u if you dont need em every week or every day

When pulling an oversize load, do you have to go through each scale even if you get a green light on prepass?

I pull mostly oversize stuff, and i pull through every scale. Some require you to bring the permit inside to get signed and some just let you go on your way

I go through alot of the same scale houses , so they know me and are familiar with me. If I roll into a scale house that im unsure of their routines, i make sure i listen for them to either tell me over the speaker to pull around back and bring in my permit or watch for the green light to go on my way ..
