Do they have hotels on remote job sites these days?

Good post. It helps to figure out the problem.

First, are you idling the truck while you sleep? I sleep MUCH better if I don't idle the truck. I can sleep well in a wide range of ambient temperatures. If it's hot I have big window screens to get ventilation and try to park where I can get a breeze going across the "office" area. The vents in the sleeper are open as well. ### a nice 12v fan, clipped where it gives you a nice breeze, and you should be able to sleep well.

If it's cold I have thermal underwear and a comfortable knit hat. I crack only the vent near my head. I ALWAYS sleep with fresh air. If you don't open a vent or window for fresh air, the CO2 can build up in that small space and Rob you of the ability to get good sleep. In extreme circumstances it can kill you, such as if you are sleeping in a snow cave during a snow storm and your vent hole gets covered in snow. Then you MUST use the shaft of your ice axe to clear the vent.

I often try to find parking AWAY from other trucks. This means parking anywhere but a truck stop. Then my open windows and vents don't let in noise or diesel exhaust fumes.

The bottom bunk windows of a 780 Volvo are the best of any truck i’ve ever driven for allowing a good breeze across you as you sleep “office” area included:)

Sleepers with them small bunk vents in my opinion are ovens in anything over 70° weather.

Not 100% accurate. Superloads in MD only move at night as well as NYC and other places depending upon conditions.

I think they call that "camp". Except instead of tents, you share a room.

A company I signed on with a few years back asked me if I'd be OK with going out over the road sometimes. My response was under certain conditions, I'd have no problem with it:
    1) I needed to know EXACTLY what I'd be doing...pickups, drops, etc...where I was going, what I'd be hauling, and how many nights I'd be out.
    2) It needed to pay enough to justify getting a room at a Holiday Inn Express or better hotel. If I can't be both profitable AND comfortable, it isn't worth staying out.

Too many variables to know where I'd be staying at the start of my day to book a room in advance of more than a few hours.
Actual space for a truck to legally park and local regs on hazardous materials are considered before shutdown time.

    Lepton1 Thanks this.

Absolutely correct. Whenever doing drive away it was often a PIA to find a hotel where I could park a truck. It was best to stop and look at Google Satellite View and Street View and maybe call the hotels. Then I would book the room online. If possible I did all this about an hour or two before shut down.

Then you struggle to get into your parking spot, maybe have to park a block or two away, slog through the snow or rain, then wait to check in, etc. etc.

IMHO all that is a major PITA compared to easing on back into my private man cave. But to each their own.
