Very true.
That's my perspective too - I just don't need the practice anymore.Vampire, fordconvert, exhausted379 and 2 others Thank this. -
I’m largely in the same boat. Only thing is I have no actual home, but funds available to pay cash for one when I’m ready. I have zero motivation to run 3500 miles a week. I prefer steady, especially since I’m living in this rolling box for a while longer.
I am still actively saving money however. I never made any money until I was in my 50s and the kids were gone and child support ceased. -
Absolutely! For me, I just wanted to finally work again by myself, with no outside stress, and do it my way.
Best decision I've made.
I'm still stackin dollars, but it's not my motivator anymore.
Like you said, this can be done many different ways with success. Nobodys reason is wrong, just different.Vampire, Constant Learner, fordconvert and 5 others Thank this. -
Man - I tried. Bought all the stuff, wasn't very good at it. All the dust and grime getting in my beer, need a bit more practice I guess. There's definitely a technique.
I might get some more wheels and give it another shot, but it's kinda like watching some 5 year old kid from China rip on the drums for 10 minutes and do stuff I never picked up in 15 years. After I see someone do it that's good at it, make it come out like a mirror - I throw my hands up and $100 bills out of my pockets and go on.gentleroger, exhausted379, 86scotty and 2 others Thank this. -
This is the way.
We have a worker who’s 70 years old and will never be able to retire. We work a straight 6/2 schedule and he carries himself like he’s in a prison camp. He’s got eight more years to pay off his house and car payments out the wazoo.
Seeing him is why I save 50% of what I make.Lite bug, Soltaker, Opendeckin and 5 others Thank this. -
Man, I think you misread every word I typed. If you think I'm not being compensated fairly for every minute I work you're reading me wrong. If it doesn't pay what I want it to I don't take it. I don't have to. I don't have any overhead to speak of.
And of course I see my truck trailer as an asset. But not an appreciating asset. If you think that you'd be way wrong. I get compensated for every improvement I make in my truck for tax purposes but overall it's equipment we're wearing out and it's value depreciates over time.
Dude, as I reread your post more and more I'm not only insulted but baffled at how you so greatly misread my post.
If you don't like trucking at all any more why do you do it? Why are you on here? If you've been in the game long enough to know so much then why can't you be successful at another small business that supports trucking that isn't directly trucking? I can think of 10 ways I could divert my business tomorrow if I wanted or needed to.
And the part about about regulations and other drivers and all stealing your joy and your freedom. That's laughable man. You obviously are deeply unsatisfied. That's no way to live man. Do something you enjoy!
I was a company guy for 25 years. The last 10 in a truck. The freedom I have to drive my business now as a solo O/O compared to that is TOTAL! It's addictive even. And I'm nobody's mule. -
Trucks rise in value with improvements? May be able to recuperate a % of recent repairs if sold. With a few recent exceptions, like pre emissions, or ELD exempt, a Trucks only worth what the Bank loan value is. Money spent is just part of maintaining it. Letting one sit, not making any revenue, isn’t a very good investment. I’m doing that right now. I should dump it cheap. instead I’m going to fix it up a bit, try to get more in spring. Maybe start running it again. Meanwhile it’s costing me money for parking, minimal insurance, and just sitting is doing more damage to it than normal wear and tear.lynchy, Last Call, Constant Learner and 1 other person Thank this.
