Were you loading out of their terminal on 34th(?). If you were than I'm not surprised about the load times. I know I picked up there 4 times when I hauled R&L freight with CRST and of all the terminals I went to they were the only ones who didn't have the load ready in the window they provided...EVERY TIME.

Sorry it didn't work out but you guys will be back rolling on no time flat whether with Us Xpress or someone else.

Yeah that's the one we worked out of. It's the second busiest terminal R+L has. The terminal manager there, Bernie, needs to be fired. He seems to have no idea about how anything is supposed to be. His answer to everything is "i don't know" or "i'll have to ask central".

Out of 4 fuel pumps there was only one of them that worked consistently and of course it was the one that was extremely hard to get a sleeper truck squeezed into. They always piled up trailers and dollies around the pumps which made it dangerous to pull in and out.

They also never used salt on the lot even though it snowed heavily several times. I think they were trying to save money by cutting corners. They had a rinky dink crew of young kids plowing the yard. R+L does it in house rather than having a professional come in that knows what they're doing. The snow brush was also a joke. We watched a team in front of us get stuck in it for over an hour because there was so much snow built up around it that they couldn't pull out. After that they put caution tape around it and blocked it off with trailers. They were indifferent to the fact that drivers can be ticketed for not cleaning the snow off their trailers. Let alone the danger of it falling off onto other cars.

The scale at that location also couldn't be trusted. It was in a horrible location to set up your axles to scale and it has a reputation for being way off. Even when we worked at US Xpress doing Ceva we were always told to scale at a CAT scale after leaving there because another team got a $1000 ticket for being overweight after picking up a load from there. We brought this up with the hiring manager and he even admitted that it is often not calibrated correctly. In the same breath he told us that R+L would not reimburse us for CAT scale costs since they have a scale there. :biggrin_2556:

Everyone at R+L's answer to possibly getting an overweight ticket was to write down our axle weights on the gate pass and R+L would pay if we got a ticket. To them that was perfectly ok but to anybody wanting a clean record that's just not acceptable.

If you ever go to that terminal you'll notice that there are a lot of white Freightliners parked there. They belong to a company called Benefit, which ran a lot of R+L's team runs. Most of the company drivers suspect that Benefit is owned by R+L so that they can just pay them on 10-99. This also would explain why they have so few company teams compared to the amount of Benefit teams running freight.

Decided to stop at the Petro in Glendale instead of the J in Franklin...

was it because I was running short on time? No

was it because I was too lazy to drive 80 more miles? no (well maybe a little)

    They have DD here.

Anyway plenty of time to get to Houston were I will deliver Friday before the sun comes up and then spend the weekend with my 3 Valentines....aka my daughters.

might try your luck at a higher end LTLs like ODFL or ABF. R&L I've never heard anything great about.

Sorry it didn't work here for you guys. Sounds like Chicago needs a lot of woRk. We were told from the 1st interview that we were paid for run and that included drop hook, fueling and any waiting. Good luck to you and your wife
