Now here's another question for y'all. If you're bobtail and there's no place else to park, which I understand fully, and you back in a spot. Why do you back all the way to the very back of the spot? I woke up last night to a bunch of honking and yelling. Apparently a driver didn't see the bobtail all the way in the back of the spot (dark color truck and parking lot was dark) and he backed into the bobtail.
Parking when bobtail.

If the bobtail is all the way back, that's easy. It's quiter and tends to not have as bad a smell of piss.
As for the moron who hit the bobtail. Well if he can't see something as big as a tractor, even in the dark, he has no right to be driving.Another Canadian driver, MIT, Studebaker Hawk and 1 other person Thank this. -
The bobtail should have had its running lights on.
Numb, Another Canadian driver and BigBob410 Thank this. -
I will give him the slight benefit of the doubt it was dark and a dark colored truck and with everyone else's running lights on it was very hard to see. But no excuse for backing in to a spot without being thorough.Another Canadian driver and Studebaker Hawk Thank this.

Back when I was a company driver I bobtailed a fair bit, usually looking for an empty wagon. On the occasion I did need to shut er down and no other options were viable, I would either
a) park behind another bobtail if I found one I could. This led to me waking up with them usually gone, which made it look like I did that intentionally.
b) Find the driver still in the truck of a bobtail in a normal spot and see how long they were gonna be there. More than a few pulled out and let me park behind them.
c) Use the bobtail area if there is one
d) Park wherever I could and still be out of the way.Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
I'm new to trucking an maybe the inconsiderate one. What should I be doing?
Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
It varies from location to location. Some have dedicated spots, while some don't.

It was just explained. With pull through parking spots, two tractors fit in one spot and both are able to get out. Park one behind the other, nose-to-nose, or end-to-end.

Try the bobtail only parking area at the Love's in Dodge City. The space in that is asinine.
