YRC pays hourly for all breakdowns, detention, etc plus mileage pay when on the road.

If there's a fatality and you're trapped sitting on the highway for 5 hours you'll even get paid hourly for that time.

15% give back but at least you'll be getting paid for literally everything you do.

Not sure what exactly you're asking but while you're driving you'd get paid mileage and while you're doing anything else that's considered on duty you'd be getting paid hourly

Because that is risky & uncertain for OTR. There is no question how many miles are between A & B, paying per load or per mile the cost is fixed and predictable. Probably, it's just the way things have always been done. There is nothing in the regs to decide the matter as long as the driver earns more than minimum wage.

It varies from minimum wage to sky's the limit. Every driver gets to decide if the pay he's offered is suitable.

If you really want a good living, get yourself to a Container Port, join the Union and stand to see 25 to 30 or more per hour. If you keep out of trouble you might work up to crane operator for bucks so big you cannot spend it all. That is one example.

OTR is so random. You build savings above anything. The ultimate payroll problem was when the Towers were attacked on 9-11 and the people plus our paychecks itself was destroyed. It was 6 weeks before payroll started flowing again each week. Until then we burned about 12K in savings in addition to a 10K bathroom replacement at our house that month. 25K poof all gone. No problem.

If you really want good money in trucking outside of a union and have the years experience without damage, loss, preventables, killing, injury etc. You will eventually become a trainer at a salary equal to more or less than 1500 weekly net. Per trainee you take on. You might fire the trainee in 10 minutes or spend 10 weeks doing the full basic train up finishing course as prescribed to you in a very large book. That trainee needs to pass a formal test at that time. See where Im going with this?

OTherwise it's feast and famine. You build savings in good weeks against the inevitable bad weeks.

The rest of drivers are too weak to do it and whine, scream, blame dispatch and then it's downhill from there for them.
