This was my first thought as well. As far as his job is concerned, I don’t believe the charge itself will hurt him or even needs to be reported.

However, if either the current company or new company finds out about it by some other means, then he will almost certainly be sent packing, just because of his actions, you can pretty much count on that. Seeing as it happened at a truck stop, and it seems like people are always sitting around truck stops with their #### cameras out these days, all it takes is one person deciding to be a snitch.

If I were the OP, I would take the new job, keep my mouth shut and my fingers crossed, and FFS stop drinking on the road (I mean I’m all for having a few beers, but ####, when you start blacking out and spending nights in the drunk tank, you gotta start questioning your life choices).

Missouri has a case.net site - once it goes through the system, even just a charge - it’s public record.

Depends on what monitoring a company does of its employees as to whether or not they’ll know.

And yes - I’m sure that charge with details would probably raise eyebrows.

I've come to view my cdl job as a new lease on life compared to the work I was doing before so this was a huge slap in the face and im very serious about changing my lifestyle to make sure this never happens again definitely.

I just hope this works out...

Im glad you have that view - after 20 years of having a CDL, it can certainly make or break life and prosperity for many.

Old hands told me to secure that piece of plastic at all costs. Drive careful, clean record, defensive driving, private life in check etc.

Grandads death certificate listed 25 years of alcoholism, my paternal grandfather died before I was born and a convicted pedophile - I’m sure alcoholism was involved- my parents both drank pretty heavy, and I grew up in an alcohol soaked country.

    I get it - it’s a balance and a battle sometimes.

You’ll have many on here that will burn you because of personal experiences, and I certainly cannot disagree - and others that understand what I just typed, and wish you the honest best of luck.

Stick around a while and tell us how it goes.

I would make the move to the new company, they are unlikely to redo a recent background check.

If the current company has a problem with the charge, you are unemployed so might as well take the leap.

And take it seriously regarding the counseling, you have a great opportunity to make a good living with your cdl, you seem to realize that, so now is your chance to get it sorted out and improve things going forward.

I did it years ago, you can too.

Yeah, I get the funny - but it’s a heck of an addiction that many struggle with, and causes great pain.

I watched a LS guy destroy himself.

I actually picked him up from jail after searching through his truck for $2000 in cash bail for him.

A guy that carries that kind of cash for that reason has a problem.

He calls me every year to thank me, but is so wasted that it’s a pointless waste of time. May be dead for all I know.

Wanted me to deliver his load, I didn’t - and then wanted to go to a bar after i picked him up from jail. Nope.

Used to have “Get unloaded - Go home” on the back of his sleeper.

Said he reached into the cab to turn down the heat, pushed it into gear, and rolled out, catching the hood next to him and wiping the front off the truck.

Cops turned up - end of story. I’m glad he no longer has a CDL.

Wow.....I'd love to see what that police report says. I'm not sure what happens here. I don't think it's inconceivable that your company(s) could find out, but its hard to say. I'm guessing they didn't impound your truck so that's a good thing.

Also boys and girls....if you're going to drink at the truck stop, keep a piss jug. Don't get out of the truck for any reason. If you're going to bend/break rules, do it right.

With no proof of being drunk, no breathalyzer or blood test , or horizontal gaze astigmatism test (follow my pen with your eyes ) , a good lawyer could make the case that you had food poisoning or the flu or something, dehydrated and low blood sugar or something to that effect .

or you took some over the counter medication like Advil and had an allergic reaction etc

the lawyer is the key to this situation being reduced .

    maybe dismissed .

Lol that's a nice try, but being sick with the flu and all of that is completely different from being drunk. Not only that, he admitted everything to the police. I think it's going to be tough for him to get that reduced or dismissed. He better get ready to pay some fines. In my opinion, the lawyer didn't do anything besides get a payday.
