So, I know of a TON of drivers that came to a dead stop today. I did myself for almost three hours, waiting for a move to come through, and was simply to to wait until it does, or perhaps chance losing the miles from the store back to the DC.

Then later I talked to another manager that said that wouldn’t happen...

    ...real well oiled machine there...

Anyway, they kept saying the PeopleNet messaging system had frozen. Up to 2500 messages just sort of got - constipated - in the system and wouldn’t send.

Drivers still on QualComm we’re doing just fine.

So far the only reason I can think why they made this switch was because it allows them to see more of what the truck is doing and in more detail. During one meeting our safety guy pulled up a PDF file from a CER, clicked on the link, and was given detailed info on a hard brake coming into a lower speed zone.

Which negates the need for cameras (again) but I digress...

Anyway if I know of a bunch of trucks stopped waiting on messages, how many total were there?

Was LOS affected negatively? How badly fleetwide?

What was the affect on utilization, miles per tractor, and profit and loss due to shelling out all the UT?

Is this new PeopleNet system better? Personally I think not. It’s certainly more cumbersome. Even switching screens takes longer. Is the processor in the tablet coal fired or what?

I also wonder if this was Walmart that caused this blockage or PeopleNet?

If it was PeopleNet I’d imagine there were some angry phone calls being made from Bentonville.

So far it’s my third week on it and I’ve done well. My first week I had THREE GRO loads, with only one being a last stop drop, and still did decent.

Hopefully today was some sort of anomaly...

    Fleetwide FUBAR.

They have been 3 years trying to switch and we still can not get it right. Some days I think we need a new IT deparrment. They have screwed the app up so bad I uninstalled it. Their custom programs do not play well with others.

Yesterday at 94/01 They were reading the riot act about it. They have got to give us a way to move when this system crashes. One guy at 66 I talked to never stopped. Not sure what ramifications that is going to have. He knew his next move even though it was not "in" the workflow yet.

Just wait. Soon your payroll management will be on you through that thing. Mess with my money because they can not get their poop together and we are going to have problems.

The purpose of this peoplenet from what I was told. It operates better with the new camera system. Eventually we won’t have a trip sheet either. If we still have a job by then.

If you as a driver make a poor decision that costs the company millions, you’re done.

    Fired.

    Escorted off the property.

What do we do with executives decisions that cost millions as a result of poor decisions?

Far as I’m concerned executives are way more disposable than good drivers. Look how many jobs they’ve all had...

Yup, and it’s a portable tablet for that reason too. Walmart looks to be heading to some kind of central dispatch that’s paperless. That’s what the ultimate goal looks like

Yesterday in a 5 minutes span I received 19 dispatched loads and 19 cancellations. Not one of those were even close to what I was supposed to get. Nice, huh?.
