Has anyone ever heard of being paid as company drivers the following:
    Freight Amount
    -2O% to dispatch
    then 20% to the team
    so that would be:

    $1500
    -20%= $1200
    @20%= $240

    TO A TEAM

When getting paid a percentage of the line haul does your settlement sheet show what the total load was paid to the owner/company?

No. I do not want to be the guy getting paid to do all of my job and part of someone else's.

None that I hauled. That's the big problem with %, is a % of what? Matter of fact, I quit a job over that. I was told I was making 27% of the trucking charge. One day, the boss told me to pick up a check for the trucking charge. When I did some math, it turned out I was making 22% all along.( hey, 5% per load over a year, buys them a new Caddy) I quit shortly after.

Thanks and I understand totally. If you would have known the percentage of a load you were making and they were fair would that have made a difference?

I have a few friends that work for these 1099 outfits, it is criminal in my book. All are now having tax issues. Mainly due to the fact they did not know the tax laws and lack many write offs a true O/O has. Nor did they file for an LLC.

Percentage pay can be big rip-off if your employer isn't straight up about the rates. If your boss drops the haul rate, you just took a pay cut, ready or not.
When I first started driving I was hauling lumber on percentage. No two loads paid the same, even loads with the same shipping and destination points. The owner would "adjust" the rate to the shipper and then take the rest of the haul rate under the table. I don't know about the megas but with small outfits, especially hauling for a local and steady customer base, it's not uncommon to shave the rates and do kick-backs one way or the other.
Things aren't always what they seem in this business..

In general the more complicated the pay scheme, the more you can count on your employer to cheat you.

Percentage often falls in that category.

    The other side of percentage:

I drag a deck, hauling steel, paid percentage. 28.7% of freight charge.

I have yet to have a year where my average pay for ALL miles driven (by odometer) has fallen below 0.65/mi. Got any mileage companies paying that much without LTL stuff?

Three years ago, I hit 0.85/mi. Again, all miles on the odometer. I've met L/O's and O/O's that have difficulty hitting that average across a year.
