Yes, I played around some with doing this for a while! I could not only log with my laptop I could also use the images without printing them to transflo my logs along with my bills. My problems happened because my carrier would not accept any logs they did not issue. I could have got the correct logs if I paid for the program and sent them a copy of a blank log. My handwriting is horrible so I really wanted to do this. I just balked at paying to get the logs my carrier would accept.

Very true......20 years of paper log. The first time my eld “failed” I grabbed my paper log and looked at it for a good 45 seconds, and thought, oh yea, I remember now. Lol

I am looking at Blue Ink Bit. It can go between many trucks if you are slip seater. I am the only company driver at this new company and do not like paper logs as I make too many mistakes and they look sloppy. The company has to have access to the logs too as they get audited. Blue Ink is a one time payment at about $300 but for me I have a 6 pin semi, a 9 pin semi and a diesel pickup. I have convinced the owner to keep me in the 9 pin truck as primary and let the farm workers use the other 6 pin trucks. My cost will be 600 up front. I am OK with the costs.

Do cops or troopers even check if it’s connected to ECM?

I'm sure it happens but rarely. Most of them do not know what there looking at and even if they look at your logs they still don't know what they're looking at. Now that's on the side of the road. If you get pulled into a weigh station for an inspection where there are guys on duty that do this all day, well they will check it and everything else. Again this is a rare occurrence but it does and will happen at some point.
