Can you provide a link or model number to that thumper puller? Never seen a collapsible fifth wheel puller.

They're made by a fellow driver at my barn. He made one for himself a few years ago, and then other guys in the yard started asking for them. Now they're all over the company. It's still very much a side project thing for him, but he's getting serious about it and making constant refinements. I've gone through several because my meet guy will see it when we're switching out at a relay and beg for it.

If you're concerned about legality, read the side of these aerosol cans of wasp spray and carb cleaner. You might see something which reads like, "It is a violation of federal law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling".

A little common sense is the best protection. I posted a story here (I doubt anyone believed) about getting flagged down, stopping, getting marched into the woods at gunpoint by a hysterical person. Common sense would have made me not stop, we'll say I'm better armed now. My company has big old Qualcomm units, I think a good swat with it would discourage a bunch of shenanigans.

You can get those retractable batons that any army surplus store I'm not certain about the legality of them in every state I used to carry a knife but that got me into some serious trouble got into a bar fight in Detroit with a fella he decided to bust a beer bottle on a table and come at me with it and I had a split second to decide either I was going to get stuck or he was going to get stuck that Split Second decision changed everything for me it cost me $25,000 up front win or lose for my attorney I was facing some serious charges but I got off and that right there is why I choose not to carry a knife any longer one never knows how they're going to react in a situation until they're in the situation you may think you know how you're going to react but you truly never do

I belive in 2nd amendment rights. But...My company doesnt allow guns either. They can search your cab for any reason. My job is very important to me. So I keep a riot sized pepper spray and a medium fixed blade Near me. But, honestly I have yet to see a single scenario that alerted me. I never worry at all while Im at truck stops and rest stops. Im more worried about other drivers jacking my ladder or v-boards.
