When ever your truck goes in for service, the mechanics will rat you out if they see damages done. A big dog MAKES bigger damages than a toy dog ever would. Ever see the movie Turner and Hooch?

Your dog may be docile and sleep all day, but he is still HUGE. Big trucks are surprisingly SMALL for 2 people, let alone what amounts to a small person as well.

If you have no one at home, or a friend or neighbor, then a kennel may be in your future.

Please DO NOT lie about the dog, and do not be surprised if they check out your dog before you start unpacking your stuff into the truck.

85# Mastiff .. It must be a pup.. Most will go close to 200# full grown.. Not the type of dog for OTR trucking..
If your dog is that important I would suggest a different career until He is no longer with you..Mastiffs have a life span of about 8 yrs on avg..

You aren't going to be able to hide a dog of this size and I don't know of any companies that are going to ok a mastiff.. Good Luck..

Well - you said "Not the type of dog for OTR trucking" and "I don't know of any companies that are going to OK a mastiff "

The relevance to this question is as follows -

If you're going to "suggest a different career" until (inferred) their dog dies (thanks for the lifespan data there) - then I would hope you have at least some experience in a trucking - specifically OTR - job, with a dog.

So - instead of beating around the bush - just answer the question.

What company (or segment, if it's that big of an issue)
How long for, and with what size dog?

If I spent my days smashing others plans and dreams, I'd probably work for the government.

Aren't Bull mastiff's the dogs that drool a lot..??

I'd hate like hell to be the driver that gets assigned that truck, when they leave..!

Drool all over the place, dried drool, but drool all the same.

I know what type of dog a mastiff is which is all that is relevant in this case.. I'm not trying to smash anyone's dreams I'm just being realistic.. I have spent the last 3 yrs researching most if not all the starter companies on their pet policies, and I sure wouldn't suggest to a new driver to ignore the rules "as you have" (what the company doesn't know - won't hurt them). It will hurt the driver if they get caught and stranded without a job 1000 miles from home thanks to your advice.. But I'm sure you'll be glad to foot the bill... Right ?
.. If I recall right you called me a fool for not wanting to go with ODFL because I want to keep my dog over more pay..

And I don'ty think it takes much sense to understand that a HUGE dog like a Mastiff is not the bred of dog well suited for being OTR, That's just common sense.

And to answer your IMO irrelevant questions, I will be starting school July 20th with my wife, We are pre-hired with Conway and Us Xpress and my Dog is a 20# Min Pin FULL GROWN.. as I said I have done my research ..

I can understand you not wanting to get rid of your pet, but that's just too much dog for a truck. It wouldn't be fair to him.

most companies will require vet records for your pet (some will require a photo).... shots and the like......they will give you paperwork showing it's ok to have that pet on the truck and you must keep that paperwork in the truck at all times
some say no large dogs BUT are ok with them anyway... other will say no aggressive breeds but ok one anyway....

most companies will make you pay a pet dept to cover damage, some will charge you extra per week so you can idle the truck for the pet, when you break down (and you will) YOU will have a harder time finding a motel that will takes a pet

DON'T LIE to the company about it because if they find out about it they will kick all of you out of the truck where ever you are..... and now you get to find a way home..... seen it happen
