i have a 96 357 the tach used to work then it wouldn’t then it would. Anyways when it stoped you could bump it and it would go to working. When you shut the truck off it go to 2500 when turn it on it goes below zero so it’s getting power. Any advice here?

You'll be best off to open the dash and access the back of the tach with a tester to check for continuity back to the sending unit first, to see if the wires are OK. At that point if they are OK I'd be looking at the tachometer head itself gone bad.

I think I remember @blairandgretchen having a problem with his tach sometime back.

I'd just get a new one from Pete.

It’s crazy I mean you could barely tap it and it would go right to working no issue

Most likely the solder broke on the plug going into tach. Mine would do the same thing, ended up cutting the tach in half resoldered and gorilla taped it back together.

    Oxbow and blairandgretchen Thank this.

    Same here.

I took the time to pry the bezel open on the back side. Ended up breaking the glass. Local glass shop cut a new piece for $10. Quick solder job and carefully tap the bezel closed with a punch and small hammer.

    blairandgretchen Thanks this.

I might hack into the old one and see if I can repair it - may cut bezel with a dremel instead.
