Most of the truck stops of yesteryear could barely accommodate more than about 20 of today's trucks. The truck stop industry evolved to keep pace with an evolving trucking industry. That's all that happened. I miss those days too but to act like truck stop owners of yesteryear were not motivated by cash and profits is kind of silly. Granted it was a bunch of small, independent owners versus a few very large chain corporations today. But the trucking industry evolved in the same way, too
Those old truck stops had A LOT of negatives that can be highlighted if compared to today. They (most) were far from "paradise". Slow pumps, pumps that often would not kick off, trashy fuel that required filter changes every 10k miles or less, no fuel island canopy, nasty communal showers, dirt lots with huge pot holes, no lighting in the parking lots, etc

I always chuckle when people blame greed for a business changing its model. I suppose that is why they work for free.

If you look at the little white sign at the top of the Poopa Johns banner it says Carabou coffee is being moved to the other side of the lot.
And for those who make the complaint that they removed the restaurant and replaced it with fast food need to visit here and check before making such claims...they still have a sit down restaurant in front with fast food in the back. And they have a shuttle that cruises the parking lot since a bunch of the available parking is way in the back, much like the old Ripoff Griffin in New Braunfels use to do before T/A bought it.
