Originally I got my CDL so I could get an IBEW Union job which I did. But, I didn’t realize how much utility jobs are being affected by the supply chain, etc. The union companies have been laying people off for at least a couple of months. I was laid off Tuesday. There is no end in sight for that industry at the moment.

This morning I was told by a trucking company that they couldn’t help me because I already have had my CDL over 30 days but do not have any trucking experience. I graduated from CDL school 01/11/22.

Any suggestions? I’m in Kansas City. I have family near Springfield, MO. At this point, I just want to work and make a living, hopefully without being mistreated!

According to the article I read we’re all gonna be affected here from about the middle of August through the end of the first quarter 2023 as they don’t have the additives to make DEF or oil for trucks, in conjunction with an expected diesel shortage. Trucks could literally be shut down for several months across this country. It’ll be interesting.

Which company told you can't be hired because you've had your cdl over 30 days?
    We'll find something for you.
Did you use your cdl where you were working? If so, that counts as local experience. So list that as experience.

Don't call the company first. Submit the application off the various trucking company websites, then wait a couple of days to call. This way, your information is already in the system.

There’s no shortage of DEF, diesel or oil. The sky actually isn’t falling.

Don't worry, as elections draw closer production will increase, prices will drop, and the economy will see the start of recovery.

    1st. Do not panic.
2nd. Mr. @Chinatown and possible Mr. @tscottme will try to help you.
3rd. Take detailed notes from their advice and spring into action ASAP.
    Good luck, driver.

If you have your CDL but don't have any experience...
If you are a driver who has obtained their CDL via a trucking school or self-study and testing via a 3rd party tester but don't have at least 6 months of experience, R. E. West has a program that can help you as well.
