After my skills test this morning we went out on the street. I drove first and it was a good time. I am finding myself getting scared to give the truck fuel ... I am assuming that is just my nerves. I have only driven a total of 26 miles on the street so far so I am still very green. My classmate drove us back the range for lunch ... we each drove for about 45 minutes.
After lunch we went out again and worked on some right and left turns .... some of the turns I did were tight for a car but I did them in a tractor trailer. I ran over two curbs ... surprisingly neither was a tight turn LOL. I almost took out a stop sign right in front of a cop .... luckily the school has a very good relationship with the school. I looked in my mirror and he was laughing so hard he had to stop. I did not actually hit it but I was very close.
Overall it was a productive day. Next week will be more city driving in preparation for our road test which will be next Thursday. Allegedly it will "rain" after our road test too .... we are going to wash a couple of the trucks ... apparently it is a tradition when students pass all of thier tests.

It will take some time to get used to how far back that trailer is and how far forward is enough to clear curbs and objects.

Scottie pretty much has the best advice atm, man. I'm still following you, for sure! I have to head out in a min or a few.. I drive the "vamp" shift...... by choice. I'll stop back tomorrow; but it sure seems like your "hurdles" are few and far between, man. Your progress seems right on schedule, if not BETTER than...................... IMHO~!
Get some sleep; tackle tomorrows hurdles with a fresh mind, man! -
The heat in OHIO today, even with the storms, is reprehensible. . . . hope you're staying cool in FL, man!!

Not much to report today other than we got to drive the "brand new" truck. It is a 2013 International Prostar+ ... nice truck. Has just under 25,000 miles on it.
We drove around the streets of St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Dunedin and Pinellas County. We drove around in different conditions working on turns and such. Mary pulled a fast one and got us on the Interstate today too ... we were up and down I-275 in St. Petersburg. We went to the Skyway Bridge Rest Area for lunch ... I thought we were going to come out and go back North .... nope we went South and over the bridge. We spent the afternoon going over and down the bridge for our mountain training. We turned around in the rest areas on either end and went back. It was scary at first but we both got comfortable with it.
We are off tomorrow for the holiday then back at it on Wednesday. We have our Road Test on Thursday morning, my classmate is at 8 then I am at 9.G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
Sounds like you had fun, eh?
Your traffic is comparable to what we have in Cleveland and Cincy, trust me.. I remember!
Good for YOU, tho... man. Good for Mary for pushing ya there, hehehehe...wfutch79 Thanks this. -
Tomorrow is the big day .... what I have been working so hard for the past 6 weeks. It is my Road Test. This is the third test that determines if I am able to get my CDL. I am confident in my ability but not over confident or ####y. My instructor told me this morning I am ready to test and if she were testing me at that very moment I would pass. I just have to repeat the performance tomorrow for the tester.
Today we went driving all over the place. I was in Ruskin, Apollo Beach and Sun City Center. Of course we ran around in St. Petersburg a little too. We did more interstate driving and she let us loose from our 55mph speed limit and let us get to 70. I drove 78 miles today.
Tomorrow we are scheduled to wash two trucks .... I need to load up on water so I do not fall out.G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
Yeah, definitely stay hydrated, man. Just talked to a trucker buddy in Miami, and he was getting dizzy in the heat just sliding his tandems!!!!!
I've got a good feeling that you'll be fine and ready for your road test, man. You've got the right attitude, and wherewithal about you, from what I read here~!
I'll be wishing you the best, nonetheless, man.
Good luck; be safe~ You Got This~!!!!wfutch79 Thanks this.
