Zuki, its going to happen and yes it is either the csr whos' account it is or whoever watches you on jit loads....(if it was a jit load) but you are new and an unproven quantity.I got those calls when i started.HaHa you made somebody nervous thats for sure, but 45 min cushion on 240 miles ? Thats why they were nervous, there is no way i am that far from a consignee that close timewise.there is to much stuff that can and will happen always, plan to get within 30 miles or so,and be there 1 hour early, minimum 2 things swift wont tolerate is late loads and accidents. So zuki not trying to rag on you,you always present yourself well here,so it is just what swift does, there is a constant and unrelenting stream of new people and and turnover is high at a mega carrier and some feel that they have to do something(like call the driver) to ensure they have done everything possible to cya on there end,you need to do that for yourself(cya) dont give them any reason to get nervous or call..............just some advice.peace brother

Sometimes you have to cut it pretty close.
My last load was 525 miles, and I was totally out of hours when I picked it up.
It was a live unload, and I had to allow enough time to get to a truck stop (or somewhere to park) after the unload.
I started my day giving 1.5 hours leeway for the drive, a 2 hour unload and 1/2 hour to find somewhere to park.
Go figure, the truck broke down just as I started my pre-trip. It took 1.5 hours to get me back on the road.
I was 1/2 hour late for delivery, but had good lumpers.
I got to the nearest truck stop with 19 minutes to spare.
I didn't get a call on this load, but I have gotten them.
The last was just last week, asking what my eta for delivery was.
I simply wrote back that since the delivery appointment was 0400, my eta was 0400.
Got a thank-you back.
I got the message about 3 hours before delivery, just as I was waking up.
I was about 60 miles from the customer.
No biggie, they are just doing their job by keeping tabs on the loads. -
WE THINK ALOT ALIKE.
IM SOO SICK OF DOUCHE NOZZLE LOAD PLANNERS.
THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT GOES INTO OUR DAY,OR SEEM TO CARE.ALWAYS COME ACROSS IN A THREATNING,OR AGGRESSIVE WAY.
WOULD LOVE TO JUST DRIVE,AND NOT BE MICROMANAGED BY SOME LOUD MOUTHED SCHNOOK!!

They messaged me what I thought my ETA would be, I answered back about 3 hours after their ETA, they asked why, I answered "+1".
'OK, get it there by then OK?" -
Do what ya gotta do, you are right most of the office people know nothing of what is going on the road in general. I get a call once in awhile, none rude but some extremely irritating, I expected that though by working here. If they bother me enough I will do as before at other companies and just shut down for the day, tell them to try tomorrow with a different approach, don't wanna drive irritated safety reasons.

I go in and talk to my planner every day and get his phone number for the day since he's at a new desk each day. It helps if you become friends with one. I never leave my planners coverage area except for a day or 2. I get paid the hourly plus miles. Needless to say, I'm happy. I know almost everyone in the office though because I'm at the terminal so much. But, I run a lot of 20-30 mile stuff. Traffic everyday, but I love it. It pays well for a newbie also. The planner did approach me that he was looking for someone to do it. Normally I'm running empties though. However, yesterday I was to go pickup a hazmat because they didn't have anyone to run it but had equipment failure. Basically I run what the OTR drivers don't and get compensated for it. Can't complain.

I have no qualms about asking someone if their bad attitude is something they get paid to have. I do my best to treat the people I work with (notice I didn't say work FOR) in a respectful manner. If they can't muster the same respect from the comfort of their desk between the hours of 8am-5pm, they quickly realize it's a mistake to dial my number. I have no problem with a csr or broker calling me to check on their baby, but an ounce of respect equals a pound of retention.
scottied67 Thanks this. -
I was never called, but I used to get QC messages sometimes. Often they would send it priority, which drove me nuts, because they would send it when I was already driving (I guess the system doesn't update very quickly when the truck starts rolling) and so I would have to stop to read and reply to the message.
One morning, a long long long long time ago, I got a message that said "good morning! Time to rise and roll to final!" Funny thing was, I got the message just as I was pulling into the customer. I had been driving for 3 hours aleady. The system took a really long time to update that morning.
