Reserve LA is Schneiders tanker dispatch location for the south. You’d load a lot there in plaquermine, especially after you there a while they’ll put you on nalco ZDD LIDT(zero defect delivery where you load and unload a tanker under a trainer supervision without spilling one drop of liquid) they had local daycab and some in sleeper trucks that stayed local around that area.
They’d load/unload tanks for otr drivers and drop:hook them at the terminal in reserve.

If it were me, I’d definitely try for the Schneider gig. That would set you up big time for down the road. The money is in HM tanker yanking down there.

Doubtful Schneider will let him take his son while he and son live in the truck full time.

Other drivers are succeeding while living in the truck with a child. Online schooling works well when a parent is right there full time with the child.
Life is tough for a single parent.

Considering where you live, KLLM might be a good start. They’re pretty good to work with. So many Tanker jobs, plenty of Local or short haul hazmat. Might want to start out with Tankers. Depending on long term goals. Lot of Tankers at Fred’s Travel Center located at 4001 Hwy 30 St Gabriel La. Every evening there’s plenty of Tankers, getting fuel, etc. That’s a good place to ask Drivers who may be hiring. If you could get on at Clean Harbors, that would be a great job. I met a Trainer with a new student once. He had a great attitude. No real dangerous chemicals, mostly recycled water. Good equipment, laid back company it seemed. Good pay, made me want to apply, Lol. Frisard’s is another good place. Vans and Tankers. Once you get experience, there’s a lot of choices where you live.

If he is taking his son with him he probably should forget about running chemical tanker. Very few chemical plants or refineries will let a driver bring in a passenger, except a co-driver. And with a minor child they wouldn't let him in.
