With Stevens, is it just the one depot in Dallas....was doing some looking on the site, and I see they have CDL schools in both Dallas and Houston - but is there a depot/driver base in Houston, or just Dallas
(I'm in Australia and researching heading over to live and work possibility) - thanks to all of you for the countless hrs of reading/info I'm learning from these forums.
I'm not needing CDL School, but will have to go thru the DMV to do my Class A and airbrake exams. Hopefully overseas experience counts - but I don't think it does......or does it?

I know you said not to say anything bad... but seriously not werner... unless you dont mind running one of the dollar store accounts. there's no money to be made here :/

Most companies don't accept military experience so i would think you may have to go through the whole training ordeal. Not 100% on that but I would be prepared for it if i were you.

I would take any dry van over a reefer unit. Running reefer, you have the extra responsibility of making sure you get fueled up immediately before dropping a trailer, then once you pick up the next one that is now run down on fuel. And reefer customers expect you to wait all day, even if its supposed to be drop and hook. I would get loads that the shipper was 30+ hours late...twice a week. And I was stuck out in some hole in the country where the local truckstop didnt have a shower or any decent food, Im walking through the mud to the local restaurant to get some slop. It was not fun.

And thats all you can do with Stevens. Werner has all sorts of stuff, but they pay is just average unless you want to do something like hand unload or train other drivers. But its a decent place to get experience if thats all you want. Just stay away from 48 state, and dont be afraid to ask for repairs. Werner loves to keep their stuff in tip-top condition, they beg us to send in even the small problems with every trailer...and they like their trucks to be able to pass inspection, they have a lot of new trucks, but most solo drivers will get a truck a year or two old. Not too bad, just look around at the truck stop and youll see Werner has some of the nicer trucks.

I am currently going thru training with Stevens. Top notch training, equipment. They do have yards all over but there HUB is Dallas. Go to one of there seminars Mon-Fri around 11am if I remember. Call the recruiter to find out. No idea about Werner, but I say got thru Stevens, the APU is a major plus. They also pay for your passcard to go into Canada.

Fueling before picking up doesn't sound all that hard. As for waiting at a shipper, if reefer loads take so much longer, at least you'll be getting detention pay. Put yourself off duty, take a nap, play on the laptop, start making whatever your detention pay is (probably 10 an hour after 2 at stevens) and save your drive time for more miles. Everyone always complains that driver pay per hour otr is awful, detention pay should be awesome then, lol.

Hurry up, millions of immigrants from Africa, Asia, and Latin America are being welcomed with open arms and being actively recruited by american trucking company's so they can pay lower wages. Hurry up your spot might be gone soon.

How many years do you think it will be till Americans are migrating away by the thousands to find work in other countries..? How can we have such a ridiculous unemployment problem and still have such ridiculous waves of immigration? I don't care about that America was built by immigrants crap, that's how all nations start...

Stevens has one Terminal, just one, and that is in Dallas. We do have a couple of drop yards such as in Laredo, TX and Colton CA mainly for the Mexican loads, but there is just one actual terminal. That is good and bad, but then every company has it's challenges.

Every driver and every truck is routed through Dallas every ninety days to take care of any company business, training, maintenance etc.
