The word "lease" seems to be lumped into one category by some people.
You can "lease" a truck which means you are just renting a truck.
You can "lease to own" a truck which means you are making payments on a truck to someone to eventually own the truck.
You can "lease to a carrier" which means you either own the truck, or are making payments to someone that may or not be the carrier you are pulling for.
All those scenarios use the word "lease" but mean many different things.

Actually they all mean the same thing. A lease is a rental agreement.

The only difference between the first two is the right to purchase for a predetermined residual at the end of the versus losing all rights at the end of the lease.

The third just switches parties as to who is renting the truck. Which is actually the same anyway. All lease purchase - or otherwise- thru a carrier involve 2 leases. One to lease the truck to the driver. The second for the driver to lease the truck to the carrier.

Hmmmmm. So far everyone has won and made a truck load of money with mine.

Start with $0. Minimal experience in most cases.

Several years later own the truck, pockets full of cash, now they're their own men.

Somehow I'm still probably the bad guy though.

They may technically mean the same thing but with highly varied possible outcomes.

I am a company guy, and I will tell you why. I won't lease, owner op or any of that. I have no business sense and I know it. Thinking about math gives me the hives, thinking about thinking about business makes me cross-eyed. I salute you folks who can do it. I can't. Just dispatch me, give me good equipment and pay me fairly, and I will drag your crap wherever you want.

We salute you back. Con gusto.
I became a company guy myself and I loved it every second.
I know and understand both sides of the coin.
They are both fine for most people.
