If you work outside your home state and/or your employer is in a no state tax state they are not required. It is the employee's responsibility to pay their home state taxes. I am speaking from the last 6 years experience in dealing with this issue.

They don't PAY per diem...when figuring your federal taxes and FICA, they remove $59 per day (for days under dispatch) from your gross income to lower your taxes...and to lower their contribution to FICA. It's an accounting trick...not actual per diem pay.

As for the state tax deal...it is true, they do not remove state taxes if you live in a state that has them.

Y'all haven't mentioned that they don't have any type of facilities for the drivers other than a break room with vending machines and DirectTV. And a 1 seat restroom that also has 1 drive-thru lane(urinal). No showers, no laundry, drivers that spend the night on the property have to park in a parking area away from any restroom facilities(not any where near the break room)

Poly - Trucking is 100% NOT a trucking company.
As goofy as that sounds it needs to be added
to the Truth about Poly thread

To say they are a trucking company is like saying
the local bakery in the town where i live is a trucking company
just because they have a row of bread delivery trucks out back.

Some of the bads really isn't that bad, I have 3 kids and a wife, only health insurance is 162 a week. With that and 6%going to 401k I have only brought home less than a thousand maybe 3 times, and usually the following week is above average keeping it pretty consistent.
I don't understand the gripe bout tolls, all you do is request money for tolls, cash the check when you fuel and pay the tolls. How hard is that?
Having to go through every open weigh station hasn't made a difference to me on any load in the last year so I don't care about that.
Our terminal is alright, but if you want a shower then you have to bobtail to a truckstop. It's pretty simple, you know you're gonna be there for a day or so and you want food or shower or sleep close to a toilet then go to the truckstop.
The shop sucks no suprise. In thee past year I've had almost every service done while I take a reset. If they find something wrong it takes longer to fix. I take a loaner or sit there. Guys that have been with poly for years say it's always been this way. So when hiring on you know this is the way it operates. They flat out told me this in my interview.
The trucks suck so I basically look at it like we get paid 47cpm because of no breakdown pay lol. You will breakdown multiple times, personally I've been on a hook 4 times this year and still made 50k in 10 months. It is what it is. All the bads should be known before hiring on at poly, I don't see how some act like they are shocked about some of this stuff.

I gave up trying to help people understand, how we as drivers all have different priorities , it's Greek , no one understands it.
I do agree 100% and have said it in the past , if you're just starting out or been with a dead end company living check to check , and don't have a savings acct. If you're credit is maxed out , and you have bills coming out of your orifices , you best not go with poly.
If you have pretty good control of your finances , if you have most of your belongings paid for , and have a savings , and other means of retirement as in IRA's and prior 401k's. Iif you are dealing with stuff like Rheumatoid Arthritis , and have to have monthly home time that might require you be off a week a month , like clock work you won't find a more dedicated company to saying thanks to you for what you've done last 3 weeks by getting you where you need to be.
I been with them coming up on 3 years in Feb. They haven't missed getting me home once. I currently am in the process of having an area on the back of the right ear removed as there's phase 2 cancer legions , I had that consultation on Wed , had Rheumatology on Thurs and Dental work done Friday , Which by the way ....1800 per yr coverage at 80% , pd by poly.
I'll need to be back for a Crown and new Partial Nov 23 , and hopefully the VA will have me a date to get those areas removed which may require a week recovery if it goes as deep as the cartilage. I'll then be looking to be back home Dec 22nd as wife and I will travel to Chicago for Christmas , and I'll take my vacation so as to take about 2 weeks off. No I'm not making 58k a year , i'm morelike 48k a year , I might pass 100K in milesby year's end but if I do it won't be by much.
1st year , I roughed it , like all 1st yrs drivers here. I dipped into the savings as needed , but didn't come even close to wiping it out. I got along , and sometimes they even told me go out and tidy up the truck line so they can pay me something as I often was there for 3 , 4 , sometimes 5 days. I carry injections at 900 bucks per that need refrigeration so I wasn't doing loaners. But I got along , did my job with a smile , and after a year was offered a significant upgrade as in NEW.
If I have to deadhead 180 miles to Portsmouth OH basically in NE KY , from delivering Sam's in Greenfield IN , I get paid 50cpm home and then 50cpm to where ever I pick up when I come back out.
Here's what I respect Poly for and it's a rare quality in this business , during my processing with them I laid it all out there on the line , about the physical problems I have that require great planning on my part to keep that RA in remission now for 10yrs.and I'm not exactly flexible about those needs.
Also I told them I'm in NO MAN"S LAND , 100 south of Columbus , 100 miles E of Cinci , 100miles NE of Lexington and 70miles NW of Huntington WV , so they could tell me what I became used to hearing since Jevic went under. Most say can't do it , you're not in a hiring lane , or can't promise you home for more than 3 or 4 days and out for 3 weeks.
Poly tells me we can make it work , I second guessed him even , and he told me we will get you home, promise. They held good 100% to that promise. I update my personal Insurance into the system at the VA hospital , the VA now bills Meritain our Carrier , the wife pays all incoming VA bills promptly and when Meritain cuts the VA a payment I'm now over paid meaning , the treasury now pays me checks as reimbursement. When we get them we don't know , how much it will be is a mystery , but the most recent was almost 300.00 a couple months ago and who's not gonna befriend that. Poly's 401k is 100% match up to 6 %.
We also each of us have extra withholding Federally to ensure a sweet Return every year.
So , although I'm only making 48k yrly , we still do the things we need to do to build and build steadily.
It's hard to convince others that Poly is pretty excellent once you become at ease with them , making it easy for them to become at ease with you right back. Good working relationships are real hard to find these days , if you get that with a company money doesn't play into the grand scheme of things as it would have 20 yrs ago.

No it is not , not state income. Now Federal is a different story unless you are independent .

Now that sounds illegal , I'd be checking into the state's tax deadline , and if you're getting that payment in before it then you should find a lawyer to look into why you're being unjustly penalized. If you have to sue the state you add that layers fee to the suit. What a bunch of racketeering bull ####. I'd be making a freaking whale type noise at that crap.
