That's why I suggested he put it on a post trip insp. report for the day it's noticed by the mechanics. "Yeah, that danged truck stop I left this morning."

 

You could fix it yourself and not tell the company. Thoes brackets might be around $60-80 each...

 

That's what I was gonna say, buy a new bracket and put it on. Cheaper to fix Funk-ups than risk your million dollar CDL.

 

YES, the shop WILL RAT YOU OUT. they know the trucks and the damages, first thing they will do when they check in the truck, is see the damage, look it up in the files and you are toast.

i believe in the honesty NOW is better than holding off. do not forget, who and what you work for, and COMPANY RATS that are out there. they too will RAT YOU OUT.!!!!!

make a call, to safety, they will write up a report. time is of the essence, they will ask when this happened. you had better tell the truth, cuz if you lie, you will be CANNED.

if nothing at all, you will be dinged for either an accident or incident, depending on the cost of the wing.

it's what i'd do, and frankly, it's what i have done.

i could care less about any DAC report, even when i damaged mine, i still got another job.

don't fear the outcome for your honesty, fear the outcome WHEN someone at your company rats you out!!!!!

in any event, i can "see" what you and the others are saying, i really do.

however we both know, that all companies have RATS, and they think nothing of ratting out another driver.

i just subscribed to the honesty is the best policy back in my very early years of working, at the ripe young age of 14. i found that being up front now, lessens the punishment, if any, since i was honest.

i have seen the results of hiding facts from employers when lying or hiding something then they find out.

he most certainly can do as he wishes, which i am sure he may have already decided.

but this will not stop him or really do any damage to his DAC, since minor crap happens, and as we also both know, many companies DAC reports are useless, especially when nearly everyone gets DAC'd for one thing or another.

case in point. i worked for an LTL company. they gave me a relatively new truck to drive.

i had to spot a trailer on the backside of the building, a very tight area. i scratched the front bumper, about a 3 inch scratch, and you could see primer paint.

i went to the front office, and pestered my TM to come out and look, and get my butt reamed out.

he came out, and oh yeah, he reamed me a new one....

For PESTERING HIM!!!!

he said that if i ever bothered him again for such nonsense, he was gonna cane me....LOL..>!!!!

 

Don't say anything. Nobody on this forum knows what your shop is going to do on your next service. Just keep driving.

Mechanics aren't that stupid.Op waits two months then tells the shop it just happened,ya right.They can tell as plain as day it didn't just happen.So then Op gets two dings on his DAC.One for the incident and another for not reporting it.Then maybe gets fired for lieing.
