A few thoughts:
1) You need to be more selective about finding employment. I did the old grey dog, travel to a far off land for orientation thing ONCE for my first OTR gig. Those tend to be the bottom feeder companies who work you like a dog and pay nothing. Too much unpaid work and too little home time. Never waste your time with lease op or CPM scams!
2) Just because you had a bad breakup doesn't mean you give up on women and buy an inflatable sheep instead. You've had some bad breaks, but there are good paying ($2,000+/wk) driving jobs out there that let you go home DAILY and take weekends off. The problem is you usually have to wait for someone to retire or die for one of those jobs to open up because their annual driver turnover is 0 while the bottom feeders have > 100% annual driver turnover so they're always advertising/hiring because no one stays.
3) As others have stated, many small, local employers don't even bother with DAC. They just check to look for accidents or something important (not the junk that's on a DAC). An explanation during the interview (if that) and you're in. See item #1 above.
4) Living in Mexico's Gay District isn't helping you. Outrageous rents, taxes and fees for EVERYTHING. Freeways used as parking lots and MASSIVE hate for professional drivers from both the 4 wheelers and the Newsom regime just raise your blood pressure but provide nothing in return. You can buy a lot on I70 between Reno and SLC (Carlin, Elko, Wells) for $5,000. A used RV can be had for ~$10,000. For less than what you're paying in state income taxes for one year you can get started in Nevada and NEVER PAY A STATE INCOME TAX OR RENT AGAIN! Save the change under your sofa cushions and you could build a garage for the RV in less than a year with a steel frame, cement floor, electricity and a restroom with a shower. Save for another year and a half and buy a house. Spend another $20k or so to have someone to pour the foundation, layout the plumbing and electric and you're a HOME OWNER in two years. Your prison guard plan won't ever let you do that. Your odds of getting shanked or raped on that plan are much higher so you'd have that going for you though.Last edited: Mar 29, 2022

Not really a viable plan for a wife, at least not mine lol. No way that lady’s living in an RV.
I agree the OP needs to vacate Cali immediately. Most truck drivers are blue collar-ish guys IMO, I don’t see how you get ahead in that country being that. Nice to vacate in, not live.Another Canadian driver and dwells40 Thank this. -

My understanding is that companies will need to verify employment history for 10 years so I have been pretty much sidelined from the industry for a decade, would it be a good idea to downgrade my CDL and then just go through the process of getting a new CDL in 10 years or so down the road and then try and then start all over or just keep it current even though I'm unhirable for the next decade or so? Even if I keep it current I would still be starting from scratch since I would have no recent experience right?
