Thanks, double yellow. Your comments are welcome here. Don't be concerned about hijacking. You're not. Vic
I've said before that double yellow is not your 'run-of-the-mill' trucker. Just for giggles, I'd like to try translate what double yellow said here.
I'm a sports-zero so I had to google this. Here's part of an Amazon review of the book, 'Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game':
There's a lot more on the web if you google 'Billy Beane/Michael Lewis fan'.
A linear scale is like a ruler or a speedometer; it moves in separate, identical, 'discrete' units (miles per hour, inches, etc.); a logarithmic function, on the other hand, is 'exponential', like a rocket ship blasting off or a good earthquake. A magnitude 7.0 is not one unit greater than a 6.0, it is 10x greater and 10x smaller than an 8.0.
The exponent for earthquakes is 10, for example. We know what double yellow is saying, that is, we get the idea without a clue to what he actually said. So here's what he actually said. If you started at Gordon and you were worth 32 cents a mile to Gordon, he figures Gordon will bring you up so much every six months or a year from within Gordon to Gordon's top pay around 40-42 cents/mile--in linear fashion.
That is, Gordon will bring you up step-by-step a cent or so every 6 months and reach 42 cents in 5 years, a ten cent improvement.
double yellow figures Gordon SHOULD give him 85% of 10 cents in 2 years or so if recruited from outside the Gordon house--so he's shooting for 8-1/2 cents more, 40-1/2 cents with 2 or so years experience and bypassing Gordon's internal, linear wage ladder.
So double yellow wants to finesse Gordon using statistics just like in the baseball/statistics book, 'Moneyball: The Art of Wining an Unfair Game'.
Who is this guy?? : 0)
(Like many things in life, like that ex-girlfriend in high school who left you to date that jock and seemed more like a shrew at your last reunion but 'into' you again; once Gordon's ready to throw him a good offer he'll realize he can go elsewhere and do significantly better. But it's kinda nice to know that she's/Gordon's finally interested in you again--now that you're not.)
Written August 25, 2013 at home, six miles north of Spencer, IN. With thanks to double yellow (who's mistaken over in that other thread). My detours now have detours. All rights reserved by author.

This is the part I still don't get. This driver for gordon got over 11k miles in 1 month and still did it running the stinker loads. Is this some special dedicated run??
Gordon Trucking, Inc. is excited to recognize Rodger Aishe as its July Driver of the Month. Rodger is one that you can always go to and he will accomplish the mission at hand; he primarily operates on the Wal-Mart account that runs from Coldwater, MI to Alpena, MI and Sault Saint Marie, MI. Rodger also hauls coke product as well for the CMI Fleet. During the month of July Rodger ran 11,365 miles on time sensitive freight with no violations, accidents or incidents. He does a great job with his fuel economy of 8.49 mpg.truckinmike1984 Thanks this. -
Well it depends actually. If the "stinker" loads are true drop and hook, there is no wasted time and you can roll a lot of miles off them.
For example, one of my favorite runs is a safeway dedicated from aubrun, wa to spokane wa. 290 miles each way, and a true drop and hood. So you can run 580 miles a day in just about 10.5 hours. If I loved closer to the Pacific yard I would try and get on that dedicated. (So if you were on that dedicated (even getting the weekends off!!) you would get 11600 miles a month, weekends home with the wife, and the luxury of never having to try and find a partking spot at night!)
In the other thread Vic states that Gordon doesnt give good runs to rookie. Actually that isnt true, I got several of the those runs (seattle to Denver, Denver to C SoCal etc) after my first week or so. But then I have weeks like this one where I get stuck in the upper midwest on 200 mile loads for a week and make no money. Good for my MPG's, bad for my sleep and mental health!Victor_V Thanks this. -
CougFan, it looks like you're still there. If you have no objection, I'm going to copy both you and GreyHound over to the other thread as I think this is good information for both. GreyHound brought up this particular driver of the month over there, too. My limited experience in the Northwest was just one extended trip, out west a month or so, only part of which was in Washington State.
If no objection raised, I'll copy it over tomorrow morning some time (actually this morning some time, I guess--got up to pee). In any event, TTR gives up to 24 hrs to edit should that be needed.
/To CougFan, Well, that's good because I just put it up and commented, too, so I'd have to re-write both of those. Thanks!
/Either thread could use more current or ex-Gordon drivers chiming in, like CougFan. Gordon has 2000 current drivers and a handful speak up and some of these sound to me like paid cheerleaders just trying to drown out any 'perceived' criticism.Last edited: Sep 2, 2013

No objections here.

works for me

Also unsure of how the dedicated pay is in relation to OTR. Met up with a dedicated guy on the Spokane end and he said they had cut the dedicated folks pay a while back.Victor_V Thanks this. -

I guess since the other Gordon thread was locked in would like to clarify for Victor this one point. Your assumption that I am a 'Gordon Ringer' is ridiculous. I do not work for Gordon, I have never worked for Gordon, I do not know a single person who has ever worked for Gordon in my life.
I have been a member here for maybe, 6 or 7 years? I live in Florida, I don't think Gordon runs down here to be honest, or at least I don't recognize their trucks if they do. I have absolutely ZERO connection to Gordon. Period.
What I did was read this thread and enjoyed Victor's writing style and became interested in how his experience was going. At some point I started to feel that Victor had a bit of an agenda against Gordon and I suspected that he may have misled Gordon and the reader here about his 'experience', based on his posts and my experience driving a truck.
As time went on I began to not enjoy the thread as much due to what I viewed as Victors disingenuous accusations and the fact that he ignored his own shortcomings as the primary reason for his lack of success at Gordon. To me it went from being a well written, detailed account of one mans experience to a less than honest hatchet thread of what seems to be a decent company.
I hate that sense of entitlement and the constant deflection of personal accountability that Victor has, nothing is his fault, there is always some larger conspiracy at work against him and he is the little guy fighting against the MAN. Once Victor hit this point I lost all respect for him and his opinions about Gordon became worthless to me. That is just my opinion, just a guy sitting in Florida reading a public forum about trucking.
It does not surprise me that when Victor sensed criticism from me he would immediately make an attempt to label me a Gordon ringer (whatever that is) and lump me in with those forces who are aligned against him to keep the little guy down. Instead of considering what I am saying he makes ridiculous accusations that dont come anywhere near passing the sniff test.
I have been here since 2008, I live on the opposite side of the Country from Gordon and all my previous posts are very indicative of who I am and who I am not. A Gordon Ringer? Can you provide even a single shred of evidence this is what I am? Anything?
Looks to me like you are the hypocrite here, when someone says something you don't like the first thing you do is make baseless personal attacks, deflect from the points you do not wish to answer. Personal attacks huh....
Look in the mirror Sir.
