I would suggest this is exactly your single most obvious shortcoming Victor, lack of credibility. Funny how we don't see the most blatantly obvious facts, isn't it?

Hi JackMac, If I'm mistaken, I apologize. Vic

Money Loads
Dispatch: Money loads, Vic.
Me: Money loads?
Dispatch: Yeah, we're taking care of you.
Easy turns, Cincy-KY-Cincy, less than 200 miles/turn.
Approx $187/turn
Me: A buck a mile to the driver?
Dispatch: Maybe adjusted a bit, but pays darn good. Yes.
Plus wait time.
Me: Very, very cool.
/Live loading in Cincy. Some live, some D&H and some DH.
/No, not Gordon.
/Lots of wait time so far. Thankfully, @ $18/hr.
/Reading ALL of double yellow's posts and threads.
/Truck definitely ungoverned.Last edited: Sep 5, 2013

Cap ready to peel off... tap (iOS) or click (PC) to enlarge pic.
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday I ran short, well-compensated turns between Cincy and Kentucky. Deadheaded Indy-Cincy on Wednesday for live-load in Cincy, live unload/load in KY, drop-and-hook in Cincy Thursday, live unload/load Thursday evening in KY, drop and hook in Cincy and last delivery in KY. Then deadheaded (ran empty) back to Indy Friday evening.
Did not notice a problem with this RFO (Right-Front-Outer) tandem (trailer) tire on departing Cincy Thursday during drop and hook. After live unload/load in KY, noticed the cap ready to peel off. It was after hours and our folks take turns. The Director of Transportation answered. I had already put the call in to alert Yokohama where we have a national account.
The 'beauty line' that you see in the pic is where the cap meets the retread core. If it's tight and you can't get the end of your finger or a pen under the cap itself, that's okay. But if you can get under the cap, it's just a matter of time. This one had started to rapidly peel just between Cincy and KY, less than 100 miles--it was gonna go quicker rather than later.
DofT: "Okay, Vic. Take your ten and have road service replace it."
Me: I'd rather have them find a tire center between here and Cincy.
DofT: "Sure, but they can replace it while you sleep. It's okay either way. And I'll be here all night if you need me."
Me: Thanks, a tire center will save us the 10 cents for the road service.
Actually, we save $300. Even with our national account road service runs $90/hr with a 2-hour minimum. A little later I forwarded this email:
They had me back up onto a 4x4 block placed behind the RFI (Right-Front-Inner) to raise the RFO (Right-Front-Outer) wheel off the ground, worked the tire off the rim, replaced the valve stem and installed the new Yokohama retread. I put down for an hour breakdown @ $18, the half hour at the tire center, off-route driving and cell phone time. Saved the company $300 and made an extra $18 for myself while avoiding a more serious breakdown.
Dropped and hooked in Cincy back to my original trailer from Indy. Made final delivery in KY and deadheaded back to Indy Friday evening.
So about $500 for the Wed-Thurs-Fri easy turns, plus wait time @ $18, plus $18 for the breakdown time to R&R (remove and replace) the RFO tandem.
Gordon would have paid me less than $200 for the same (5 legs @ 31 cents/mile, less than 100 miles each leg plus the DH out to Cincy and back from KY), nothing for wait time, nothing for breakdown time.
All trucking jobs are NOT the same.

IIRC Gordon does have detention time paid after 2 hours. Made a load a significant money maker rather than looser for me.
Drop and hook Victorville, CA Live unload with 5 hrs paid detention Stockton, ,CA live unload with 7 hrs paid detention Spokane, WA + extra drop pay.
Key was the anal retentive documentation you had to do to get it.....
Arival and departure times on bills, Qualcom macro after 1 hour. (follow with a freestyle to get DM's attention). I would drop a second @ 2 hrs that detention pay started.Victor_V Thanks this. -
Normally.
Well, guess what? About 2 hours into my midnight journey, the QC chirps three times. Not twice, which would be normal for a preplan. Uh oh, I think. Something unusual is happening. It's very late, the dispatchers are gone, THREE chirps...definitely strange. i was curious, but waited until I got to Lansing, the first stop, to read them.
Bad news. The preplan was for a 3-stop back haul from the two stores on my delivery plus one in Ann Arbor, 45 miles away back to Plainfield. When I arrived in Lansing, I had 5.5 hours left on my 14, which is normally sufficient for my needs and availability. However, with three additional stops, including an almost 60-minute trip through AA, which has had its roads torn up all Spring and Summer, thus adding to rerouting - there are lots of no-truck routes in a college town - and time, I knew I was in trouble.
And I was. To make a long, very unpleasant story short, I ran over my 14 by, um...shall we say less than 5 but more than 3 hours? And here I sit in the first available safe haven while Mr. Safety does his magic with my QC logs to show compliance.
It's all about planning and good planning requires knowing where you're going next before you leave. I didn't and was mightily shocked with the over-hours. Yikes! At least the Michigan State Police commercial vehicle inspection teams weren't out in my neck of the asphalt jungle last night.
Oh. And my king-pin lock handle got bent during one of my hooks, so that's gotta be fixed. Somedays it just doesn't pay. Anything, anywhere, any time. But I just got another preplan, so I still have a job!Victor_V Thanks this. -
Vic, I miss having my daily reading lol.
Just have to add that this last month has been pretty darn good. (Not that there haven't been headaches and short runs, I said it was good, not perfect lol!) Had a service failure that was put on me that I am still sore about. (The load was borked, but I accepted the preplan without confirming that it had already been failed).
But I did ask if I could get run through a certain city to take an old buddy out to dinner, and sure enough with 4 loads they made it happen. ANNNNNNNNNNNND (drumroll please) I got my first bonus check. For the last quarter ran 23.5k miles, at 6.9 mpg (The quarter before was 6.6 I think). Was about $250, and I sure was happy to get it, as I was not expecting it.Last edited: Sep 13, 2013

23.5k for 3 months?????? That's 2k miles per week.
What am I missing?
Performance bonus was just coming in when I split from GTI. Figured it would be more than 0.01 per mile though.double yellow Thanks this.
