I know a few drivers on the dedicated fleet I am on are starting to look elsewhere. Not looking forward at all to the coming months as "Heartless Express" (thats what I understand there drivers call it) Takes over and implements there policies and procedures.

Cougfan, GTI has a few of sub-haulers. I always see a bunch of old non blue trucks running GTI trailers on I5 in Cali.
These folks may be moving north so they do not have to get newer trucks for the first of the year. -
Anyone else surprised to learn Gordon average run 400 miles?
26.6% of loads under 100 miles?
39.5% of loads 100-400 miles?
66.1% under 400 miles?Last edited: Nov 16, 2013

Nope it's the nature of their business. They were a consolidation of Local/regional companies that added some long haul.
They got all those terminals on the west coast as they aquired other regional/specialized trucking companies.
Not a surprise at all -
Is that hindsight?
What were your thoughts when you pulled for Gordon?
You're not pulling any short shrift now except between delivery and next pickup, right?
I think you both said you got some good loads. I did, too. But they were usually special, like 2,000 miles from Pontoon to Clackamas on a truck to be retired in Pacific or from Shasta Lake to Denver and Grand Junction to Pontoon area after I gave notice. (They wanted to bring me back, I think. Knew that I would just as soon turn truck in at nearest terminal. So suddenly I got miles.)
I remember a driver who came from PTL. We swapped loads at the drop yard off Cicero. Mine took him home to Michigan, I think, his took me to Plainfield and home. He'd been running 3500 miles-3600 miles/week since he started.
"But don't tell anyone, okay?" That was typical of some I met who got good miles. "Shshsh!!" Didn't want anyone to know. Makes sense now.
I didn't have a clue. They gave me a load, I ran it. Simple.
Picture much clearer now.Last edited: Nov 16, 2013

Time to let it go victor.. nobody cares anymore
-
I still care, tow.
Ex girlfriend was schiz. Took me a while to realize it and had been together with her 30 years before. She was probably schiz then, too. Three people in there. Didn't know who was home.
Suddenly it all seems familiar.
It was that very disconnect that prompted me to start the narrative. -
On any given PrePlan it seemed, Gordon could route me 40 miles or 2000, tons of freight.
At will.
Now it's clear that dispatch was scrambling every day with 1 of 4 loads under 100 miles and someone has to deliver that as well as the 2000-miler.
CougFan said, if you don't speak up they think you're okay with the way things are going.
You've said the same.
I might be a little slow on the uptick, but gradually I'm getting it.
Rearview mirror-ish. Oh-h-h-h!! -
The 400 average mile is about what I would expect. I am working for a local hauler now, I can do 3 runs in a day. Gordon had a lot of local drivers doing similar work. So by the time I finished a two day 1000 mile run, my oppisite could have completed 6 short haul runs.
I would be interested in learning not what the average run was, but what the median run was, I bet it would be more telling. But with the sheer number of local runs that can get done in a day the numbers will always be skewed towards a low average. -
So you finished your training and orientation?
Are you on your own?
Is this your 'official' announcement? ...CougFan has moved on (as Chowick said) 'pastures new'...?
Or do you need more time to settle into the job?
