Lol, still setteling in and in training, there is a lot more that goes on to make farms work than I had thought. But being paid by the hour with overtime feels almost too good to be true.

[h=3]Median vs. Average[/h]The median of a set of numbers is that number where half the numbers are lower and half the numbers are higher. In the case of real estate, that means that the median is the price where half the homes sold that month were cheaper, and half were more expensive. The average of a set of numbers is the total of those numbers divided by the number of items in that set. The median and the average might be close and they might not. It all depends on the numbers.Example:
Here are 11 fictional home prices.

    1. $100,000
    2. $101,000
    3. $102,000
    4. $103,000
    5. $104,000
    6. $105,000
    7. $106,000
    8. $107,000
    9. $650,000
    10. $1,000,000
    11. $3,000,000
The median price of these 11 homes is $105,000. Five homes were lower priced and five homes were higher priced.
The average price of these 11 homes is $498,000. That's what you get if you add up all those prices and divide by 11.
What a difference! When you are looking at home prices, make sure you know whether the numbers are averages or medians. Both numbers provide good information, but they have different implications.

The info set out in the presentation breaks it out nicely, I think.

    26.6 under 100, 39.5 100 miles-400, 66.1% under 400, 15.2 400 miles-699, 10.9 700 miles-999, 7.9 over 1000.

The median is probably somewhere 300-350ish. Because you have 66% under 400. The median has to hit some below 400 miles.

If you looked at 8% 2000 miles and 26.6 under 100, the average's probably up around 700 or more, I would think for just that part. Just guessing. The biggest bulge is 39.5% 100 miles-399. Which pulls the 'average' down to 400.

    Any math majors here?

It was clear before I signed up because they had so many regional/local terminals and the CNA (cali-Nev-AZ fleet). I knew folks in those fleets would rarely see enough miles for my goals so I signed on for 48 state.

Was reinforced in orientation when they covered how GTI had grown -- Absorption of other small regional companies.

Was also warned by a former GTI driver to stay out of the regional stuff there is no money for drivers there except maybe the Heavy haul folks.

Ha-ha, Blu. You knew a lot more than I did going in!

I was fortunate to have other income.

And little in the way of expenses.

Ha-ha. Some think I'm just full of it.

The numbers out because of HTLD reveal how much a battle dispatch had at Gordon every day. Yet Gordon managed to make it seem seamless. Who knew they had 7% that they brokered out?? Tons of freight. And 93.5% costs against revenue!!

    Plus $150 million in debt.

Now THAT'S a 'truck' payment for you. Especially when for every $100 you make, you only get to put $6.50 in your pocket out of that $100. Talk about logistics! Heroic. Keep in mind, run by a family.

I do still talk about moving the 8 (I think it was 8 ) rolls of Toilet paper from Georgia Pacific in OR to one of their other plants.

Yea that was a full trailer load because they where about 6 foot in diameter....

That was a fun short run for pure comic value and all the bad bathroom humor folks come up with when I tell them about it.

Time for me to pack it in for the night.

Msg #418, #418 key parts of slide presentation at Tuesday call conference.

Click to enlarge if PC, tap if iOS.

(Got a Kindle in the mail yesterday. Ordered it Wednesday and got here very next day thanks to the magic of transportation. USPS. And ordered in afternoon!! Amazon had two sales brought it down to $29. New, too, not refurb. Couldn't pass that up. It's cute. Tens of thousands of free books and more with Prime membership. Just started buying from Amazon again after stopped when didn't get a refund thought I was due. Took a year until I figured Bezos had missed out on enough of my purchases to offset my measly refund. In the meantime, he just powers on. Buys Washington Post. G'nite.)

Well, chowick didn't take long. Just announced on 'Heartland Express Acquires...' (the main one, I think we have three now) he'll be on a JB Hunt dedicated. Congrats, chowick.

That's a good move and his reasoning surprised me. I would have thought great equipment, predictable hometime, good pay...

chowick went to JB because JB's big enough NOT to be acquired. Bingo! He's been through this before, too, and explained some of that past experience. Announced on hometime.

HTLD will likely experience a lot of hometime bailouts like chowick going forward...

/Big rain here in Indiana last night (11/16-17/2013). Catch ponds full.
