    Back home.
--Broody's looking like a good Mom
--Another hatched egg shell, will count chicks tomorrow
--Dogs almost delirious, have to be told 'settle down'
--5 eggs in the nest box again
--On way back from Prairie Monday
--5 Illinois troopers had cars pulled over
    --just before 474/74 merge eastbound
--where construction speed limit drops to 45 mph
--Today, big enforcement around Spoon River rest areas
--CMV pulled over on westbound side
--One unit on west side of rest area
--Three others staged on east side, ready to go
--Two more at next law enforcement turn-around
    Hey! You think they're serious??

I can't remember if they can chimney stack pallets in a 96 inch wide trailer, but they can sure do that in a 102, alternating 1 sideways with one normally and offsetting that on the next row, reversing them from one side to the other to keep the rows even, then you can get 28 or even 30 in a 53 without stacking. The boxed meat we haul can have a couple small pallets stacked together to come up with more than 26. It can also be stacked clear to the roof on an individual pallet

It's difficult to do with the standard riding pallet jacks, but can be done with walk behind powered ones. Loading them sideways is also called pinwheeling the load, and is more often used when unloading and staging a load in a limited area. Had to be done when unloading at Aldi Distribution in Batavia, IL with a full load. It's been a long time since I've been there.

Like Yard Boss and those Illini troopers, you guys are way, way too serious. Called Yard Boss Wednesday a.m., asked him what he was doing. Measuring. Over at our Indiana customer... measuring. Next we'll see Friday (we can PU early now but can't DEL early) how they complain pulling pallets off. He now says Prairie du Chien dock 'professional'--Indiana customer's as not. "They used to train shippers and dock people, Vic... They don't anymore. It's sad." Yard Boss's never been to Prairie.

We'll see. Tentatively planning to spend part of Friday with Gary the Mechanic who will be at our Yard (Tues & Fri). Watch Yard Boss complain, runs to do...

Hey! I'm off except for the DEL Friday! Back to Prairie Monday.

    Only see one speckle-faced chick
--sounds like more but that's all I found
--three hopefully fertile eggs underneath her
--had been 10?? May need close tabs!!
--Talked with a Werner driver at Roady's Prairie du Chien
    --28 years w/Werner!!
    --Has mostly run dedicated
--Now Cabellas, Prairie to Sidney, NB near where he lives
    --Home every weekend
    --Boggles my mind. 28 years!

//Knew I heard more than 1. She's got 5 chicks and 3--nope, 5--eggs left to hatch of the original 10 fertile eggs. Now, I was lifting up her skirt--well, wings--where, how'd she hide 'em?? I ask you. Definitely 5 out there following around with her. Very cute. Definitely 5 more eggs in the nest box.

Wrote a report for Yard Boss
--Shows surge 34.5% in miles since June
--Distinguishes Yard Boss' op from freight and mail
--We can't be late, not an option
--He's done this job 15 years
--Told when he started, "It never gets better..."
    Was good advice, too.

Hm-m-m. Counted only 4 chicks tonight
    --Should have been 5
--Broody is able to hide them on her person
--But they're super active on their own
    --If there's a predator, won't stop at 1
--Searched all over, no 'evidence' of foul play
--Yeah, Bright One will get that...
    --Will anyone else??
--How do folks find this thread?? I ask you...
