I am a company driver but know the rates as I am with a very small company. I do power only for Menard's. We have a base rate of $1.70 per mile with a fuel surcharge as well that fluctuates weekly but lately has been in the .67-.73 per mile range. So all in the rate per mile is roughly $2.40 per mile. There is no deadhead at all as all I do is go from distribution center to stores, unload, and back to the same distribution center. We are paid that rate loaded and unloaded.

As usual, the term "Power Only" is being used to describe 2 distinctly different types of operations:
1. True power only means you haul a different trailer every trip, either new empty trailers being delivered, used equipment being repositioned or loaded time sensitive trailers. You rarely are around when it is loaded or unloaded, nor are you responsible for that.
2. The 2nd power only scenario is you provide the tractor, the lessor provides the trailer and loads. You haul freight just like anyone else, possibly drop trailers loaded or empty as needed, but you are in the freight hauling business.
I suspect this OP is describing the 2nd circumstance.nit2winn, Judge, Another Canadian driver and 1 other person Thank this. -
