Picked up this hum dinger of a trailer last night. Air hose was dragging and wore a hole in the hose. And how this dry-rotted tire never exploded is beyond me.
Nasty email sent to Safety.
Pre-trip? What pre-trip?

That’s not dry rot, it’s where the outside tire blew out and the sudden weight increase split the tire.
hope not dumb twucker, wore out, Flat Earth Trucker and 1 other person Thank this. -
The outside tire never blew up, is roadworthy, and remains as the RFO. The tire shown was the RFI. Unless the outside tire blew up previously and was replaced without the damage to the inside tire being noticed.
Never seen a tire like that before.hope not dumb twucker and 062 Thank this. -
It’s fairly common damage.
Could be a previous blowout and they only had one tire.
When I take a call for a tire, I always ask size and wheel type. I load up two tires and a wheel.
@SmallPackage may know what they call that sort of damage.SmallPackage and Flat Earth Trucker Thank this. -
You have learned me somethingSmallPackage, Flat Earth Trucker and 062 Thank this.

Yes. That is lower sidewall bead stress damage due to heat stress from under inflation and overloading at some point in its life. That tire should be scrapped if it wasn’t. I wouldn’t have put any air in it if it was me. Big risk of zipper type explosion.
Flat Earth Trucker and 062 Thank this.
