There's some employee drivers in specialized at TMC that do far better than most owner-ops. Takes a while to work your way up into specialized, but the option is there if you got the stuff. Lease op isn't all it's cracked up to be but you should work a few years as an employee driver first. Hell. You might not even like trucking after you've tried it 6 months. As an employee driver, you just walk away. No harm, no foul.

Use that employee driver time to learn the trade and speak with other drivers at other carriers as you go from shipper to receiver and meet others from other competitor companies.

You’ve gotten some good advice here, be patient and learn the trade and then decide if you want to go out on your own. With your location in the south you might consider Cypress, just another option.

What is l.p.? Also I'm a tmc driver my first driving job been here a year now I'm on percentage pay which percent varies based on a point system! 1 year experience I make more than a lot of drivers including my father in law who has been driving for 5 years. Trucks are super nice we are goved at 62 which sucks but at same time its safer! They are a very safety crazy company which I like I'm home every weekend unless I choose to stay out! Trucks can be washed every week must be done every 2 weeks tmc does pay for those. Any thing wrong with truck they take care of right away! I would say biggest down fall is no modding the trucks this includes putting in a cb but they provided all trucks with cobra 29! Hope this helps and prime sucks!

I did flatbed briefly, can’t say I liked it much.

    1. It’s VERY difficult to tarp when you take on bat form, and they ladies like a sharp dressed bat!

    2. Everyone is so sweaty in flatbed. Ever bite a sweaty neck? It’s like licking a salt block.

    3. Checking that load every 150 miles or three hours really cuts into a nosferatu’s required sleep time.

Just be prepare to tarp every load with TMC. They provide a set of heavy 8' drop tarps around 120lbs. Many of their loads are tarp. Too bad they dont provide a set of 4' tarps too. As a new driver, i highly recommend that you do not jump into a lease purchase deal until you get a lot more experience since not completing the lease will affect your credit. Which in turn limit your future finance options.

TMC lease isn't something they just let anyone do. You generally have to meet a minimum amount weekly for several months at a time without dropping below it. If i recall, it's not a full on lease, as the tmc financing side will finance the truck, give you terms like a normal bank note, tmc will take the payments out of your settlements. They do make monthly notations to the credit bureaus, and after several months you are free to leave withthe truck so long as the payments are continued to be made. They will accept the truck back if you want out, however they will ding you credit for it, and you will lose you're down payment if you made one. I know of several guys over there that are doing really well, then i know of a few who failed miserably.

I'm thinking about working for tmc after schooling. Do you mind sharing how much you make gross and how many hours you work to make that?
