I'm just a dirty mechanic but I show up every morning with clean work pants, belt and a clean shirt. Tucked in of course. I take pride in my appearance. If you look good, you'll feel good too.

I wear a pink rabbit suit and an old white bicycle helmet when out here trucking. I drool a lot too.

    Social distancing has been easy.

Try impressing them with your driving.

Most shippers, receivers, and truck stop workers never see your driving. Truckers dress and act like slobs and bums, then complain about being treated like slobs and bums.

The 4 wheelers notice you sitting in the passing lane for miles.

I wear a sport coat and tie every day in my truck, but finding new steel toed Wing Tips is getting more difficult every year.

The only ties I have any thing to do with are covered in creosote.

They mostly notice me taking up two lanes at once doing 45 in Michigan because that what my permit requires for “safety”. They, like the other truck drivers, eventually figure out what the far left lane is for.

I don’t do the truck racing ########, I back out of it every time.

I think there are times when 'proper attire' is appropriate. Times such as when you are at a shipper or receiver. As a driver, you are a representative of the company you work for. The image that others see from you reflect on your company. This also includes your behavior with shippers and receivers. You may not think how a driver appears and acts toward the shipping and receiving folks affects your company, but it does. Maybe not everytime. But, it will sometimes. It is about basic customer service. Those shippers and receivers are the companies sales. They are the ones paying to ship goods. If they don't sale, they don't have loads to haul. As a driver, your appearance and behavior do reflect upon the company you work for. Whether you think it does or not. I'm a friendly fellow and have talked to shipping and receiving clerks and they notice more than you may realize. Especially behavior. It boils down to simple customer service and those shippers and receivers we visit are our customers. They are the ones who pay our company to ship stuff for them and enables our company to pay us.
That said, I don't think 'proper attire' at truck stops and such are a big deal. We live in these trucks, might as well be comfy. Personally not into sandels and jogging suit type attire. But, to each their own if that is how they are comfortable.
