For the record, I’m not involved in anything on that level. I’m mainly moving 16’ wide 100’ long aerospace loads. Those big loads are #### interesting but I’m out here for the money, and my company throws stupid money at me to do what I do.
Everyone is a bit more professional in my segment, not only do we actually shake hands with our customers, I back my truck through the plant to hook up to my loaded trailer. My tractor is literally 6’ from on of the managers desk.
Do you think it would be acceptable to hop out in flip flops and dirty sweatpants, with trash spilling out of the truck? Absolutely not.
It’s about respect, for yourself, for your company, and for the industry.
I will admit I’m a bit lax with my regular pilot cars. I do make them wear closed toe shoes when at the customer. I don’t how ever make them wear reflective vests when we’re going down the road. In 4 years of doing this I’ve only had to have them do ground traffic control maybe 5 times. And they will usually be putting their vests on as they get out of the truck. I do require everyone, including myself, to wear a reflective vest at all times during night moves. I keep a clean unused one just for that purpose.
As you can see, I’m not perfect, but I do try to put an effort out and present myself as a professional.Gearjammin' Penguin, mustang190, JoeyJunk and 7 others Thank this. -
I'm pretty sure he was. I know he didn't get loaded and was told to leave.JoeyJunk, D.Tibbitt, Gary Muldewski and 1 other person Thank this. -
Professionalism in our end of the business
It’s part of the OSOW business.JoeyJunk, God prefers Diesels, kylefitzy and 2 others Thank this. -
The way I see it, your image is your first impression. If you look like a slob, people just assume you half-### the job the same way you half-### your appearance.

Try showing up for a job interview in shorts and flip flops.........so why
do it for the customers??? A working man should look like a working
man.....not a slob.
If you were the manager and two guys showed up for the same job.....
one looks like a slob; the other one has long pants, leather work boots, decent
hair cut, doesn't smell bad, pliers on his belt, callouses on his hands, etc.....which
one would you hire????
I don't put any stock in a suit and tie......but long pants, work boots, hair cut,
goes a long way. In my world a suit and tie means the guy is a crook/used car
salesman.....means he will try to take advantage of somebody.ronjeremyjr, Gearjammin' Penguin, D.Tibbitt and 6 others Thank this. -
A lot of good points about how you should dress but in this business it's not how good you dress its about how good you can DRIVE...
ronjeremyjr Thanks this. -
Because they just want something to complain about and make themselves out to be better than others. I guarantee that at least 75% of the people who complain about what other truck drivers are wearing and how it's "not professional" haven't been able to see their own private parts in years, if not decades, without lifting up their stomach fat first.mladen86, supergreatguy, rbrtwbstr and 2 others Thank this.

That's a good way to get the loader to "accidentally" bump the vibrator after the spout is already out of the manhole.JoeyJunk, rbrtwbstr and God prefers Diesels Thank this.
