My answers came direct from the head of Safety in PHX when I had to take the e-log class. Have now been doing if that way for over 1 year, have been audited more than once, and it has never been a issue. My only issue was back on paper logs and the computer kept spitting out speeding, even tho I am L/O, always over 63mph.

I am confused right now. Not in the truck. Line 2 I thought was Off Duty. If it is line 1, then that at the end of the day, flag a post trip and send in MAC 32. All that MAC 32 is saying is that you did inspect the truck and trailer but not when. All that you are doing when sending in MAC 32 is saying that you did the necessary inspection during the day and found nothing wrong. How long does it take you to walk around your truck at the end of the day. I never read or heard where they said that they want MAC 32 on line 4 when sent in. I think that alot does depend on the terminal that you are out of. PHX can be anal along with some others, and I think that some of the terminals set there own little rules.

Here's a message I got the other day
-
I've had several messages about the post trip. (not to me directly, but generic messages)
You should be on-duty-not-driving while doing both the pti and the mac32.
I usually log between 15-30 minutes for a pre-trip, and 5-8 minutes for a post-trip.Zukimart and scottied67 Thank this. -
Safety in Edwardsville told me today that it was 15-30 minutes on duty for pre trip and then off duty for post trip. I even asked three times about this just to make sure I understood right....LOL

I was leaving Greer SC terminal a while back, they have a whole list of questions they ask you when you are leaving the gate like:
Do you have your medical card?
Do you have your seatbelt on?
Are your mirrors adjusted?
and an interesting new question they asked as I was driving out-- Are you sending your Macro 32 at the *end* of your driving day?
I had been in the habit of sending it during the pretrip the next day every time. Where I got in trouble one time was where I got up about 0100 AM and sent the mac 32 and mac 10 while on my 10 hour break so I could send a Macro 30. -
i used to log 15min for pretrips then roll out. i then got pulled in for an inspection and they yanked my logs, and i was told by dot... you always show a 15min pretrip, yes sir, ok.. now what i want you to do is show me a full pretrip in 15mins, and more/less im writing you a ticket. he then said no way in hell i can do a thorough pretrip in 15mins, and then read me a riot act, then proceeded to do the truck inspection. i never had to show him my pretrip, i think it was because i didnt point cingers sayinv my ompany or blam this or that, i just agreed and kept my mouth shut..
so now i log 20min pre's and my usual 10min post(off duty).. never has swift nailed me on this and or my old ways.. i did get nail on this ####... you MUST be on duty while sitting in a doc bs... now that sux.scottied67 Thanks this. -
I've never been on duty when sending any messages be it mac 30, 10, 32, 34 never.
I log as follows:
Always 30 minutes for pretrip ( even if it takes me 18 or 20 or 25 minutes)
15 minutss on dutyn for pick up or delivery ( I'll let it ride now and then all the way up to 30 depending on many factors)
As long as it takes for fuel ( I've done this in as little as 7 minutes. Safety guy in laredo said its ok)
I flag post trip off duty.
I' ve never been told the way I log is wrong, nor have any of my students, and have them from many different terminals. Just my experience.scottied67 Thanks this. -
Sounds like everybody does things a little different and the bosses are ok with it. Whatever floats your boat, I guess. Here's my logging philosophy for on-duty not driving time: normally 10-15 minutes for pre-trip at beginning of day, unless combined with another status, such as a pickup or fueling; always 5 minutes for post-trip at end of day (this is also when I approve my logs and send in macros 10, 32, and possibly 34); all time at a customer is normally logged on-duty (unless breaking at customer) and edited down at end of day (unless I'm running up against my 70 hour limit). All said, I pretty much log as I do. The only trouble I've had with safety in the log department is with 11, 14, and 70 hour violations. I do my best to not drive when out of hours, but with e-logs sometimes it can't be helped.
Frenzy Thanks this.
