LoL
@Skateboard you're right but I'll take my chances. Really the clutch operates and feels normal. It wasn't a spring that broke and fell out. More likely some kind of retainer holding one that fell out. Unfortunately I lost it before I got to the shop and he could see it. I've had the oddest luck here lately. I need to buy a lottery ticket because I'm sure it's going to change for the better here soon lol.
pulled inspection plate off to grease throw out - this fell out

Ya, I hear ya. There were a lot of small spring parts that came out of mine. I never knew how thin the clutch plates were. There are about the thickness of a dime and made out of ceramic material. I was floored. When you depress the clutch it only separates them by the width of a piece of paper. I was told a grain of sand stuck in there can cause you not to be able to engage the clutch brake. That was my problem. I had to shut the engine off and start in 3rd gear. I was lucky. 600 miles from OH to NH and only had to stop completely once. The rest of the time EzPass worked at the tolls so non stop.

Yes, mine was the same way, no clutch brake so couldn't get it in gear while running. Start truck up and shut her down, the last dying breath, slip it into Lo gear then restart lurching forward and float gears after that. Lord help me if I hit a red light or cross traffic at a stop sign that I couldn't creep through.
Came west out of Albuquerque so Arizona gave me the bypass, Tehachapi, slow roll over the open scale and went around all the others in CaliSkate-Board Thanks this. -
