Park on the street then or violate the logs, really no way around it.

It’s not like you go over hours and your truck explodes or you instantly pass out and put it in the ditch.

Oh the perils of living/working in a truck, just park on a side street next to the customer and do a break. Sometimes going somewhere can cost you if you're out of HOS.

I was referring to the guy that has the tricked out truck.

In you case I would have never been there. At 40 minutes to go I unhook and come back tomorrow for my trailer. All paid by the way.

I used personal conveyance with a trailer all the time at Swift. What company are you with? Depending on how big the company, how many drivers, how likely your logs are to be seriously audited etc, you can probably get away with it. I did it both loaded and empty for hours at a time sometimes depending on what I was trying to do. At any rate, just drive to a place to park and make a notation in your logs if you're super concerned about getting dinged. And if you're about to run out of hours at the shipper or receiver next time, suggest that they hurry the hell up or you drop the trailer in the door and come back 10 hours later to retrieve your empty.

If the trailer is empty and the driver is not under dispatch it is perfectly OK to drive off duty (PC). It will count as part of your 10 hour rest period.

If you're not under dispatch and even if you know you are going in the direction of your next load, it cannot be called advancing toward the next load because the next load does not exist yet.

Also there is no minimum time to occupy the Sleeper in order to achieve a 10 hour rest break. The only requirement is to log it as Sleeper if your body is in the Sleeper, true, correct and current.

I've heard rumors that a local outfit had there trucks rigged to shut down after hours ran out so you couldn't get creative with the his.

I've also heard this is a magical creature that rides around one night a year giving out gifts to kids.

I've also heard of another magical creature that gives out money for human body parts.

    Doesn't mean they are real.
