So i have 23 hours left on my 70 hr clock. Im dropping this trailer 1250 miles from my current location and then im going home after that. My question is. Im dropping the truck at my company terminal in phx then driving my car home. But i will be out of hours on both my 70 and my 11hr clock after dropping trailer at delivery. The terminal is about 3 hrs away from the delivery. Would it be legal to use line 5 personal conveyance to bobtail 180miles back from delivery to terminal to go home? Or would i have to wait until midnight on monday to recap my hours on my 70? I would not be under dispatch once i deliver and am going home, and also would be bobtail. Please let me know your thoughts

    FlaSwampRat Thanks this.

As long as you are bobtailing back to the same location when you return to work. If you’ll be loaded from a different location, then it’s considered a dispatched move.

I read differently on this issue - that you no longer have to return to the same spot.

No it's not a valid use of PC, and is specifically stated as such in the guidance.
Here is the guidance in an easier to read format.
    Personal Conveyance

    And the specific section:
The following are examples of uses of a CMV that would not qualify as personal conveyance and therefore be required to be recorded as driver time:
    7. Time spent traveling to a motor carrier’s terminal after loading or unloading from a shipper or a receiver.

    Three questions to ask yourself:

What are the chances you’ll get inspected in the next 7 days?
What are the chances your company will be audited in the next 6 months?
How bad do you want to go home vs sleeping in the truck?

Gotta risk it for the biscuit.

Well - bugger. And thanks for clarifying.

Probably the reason I never use it anymore - seems they molded it into something that allowed either shippers and receivers to kick you off the property after wasting your clock, or -,

LEO to remain able to wake you up and kick you out of places.

When they changed it to say ‘ you can’t use PC to go home ‘ - I gave up on it. What’s the point.
