what do you mean that your endorsements won't transfer? Are you planning on moving to another state from the current one before you start school or something? I have my permit now and got my TWIC, HAZMAT and all of the rest of the endorsements so when I get my CDL I won't have to take the tests than.
Question about TWIC...

I guess I was basically saying what you guys have been trying to tell me. It would suck to get my CDL license in the mail and ready to go & apply to companies, but my HM process is still stuck on DHS clearance.
Then I would have to order a new license after that was finished. To show all the endorsements.
Maybe Im still not getting it. lol . -
You would have to get a new license but it really isn't that big of a deal. In Michigan it cost me a grand total of $18 to get my license corrected.

hme and twic are two separate checks done at the same place. Its like 200+ for both.

If I were you...I'd go ahead and get signed up for the December 1st class, unless there's a reason it won't work for you. I would go ahead and get the permit and take whatever tests you can knock out before showing up to class. That way, you won't be one of those guys (i.e. Myself) that were having to run down to the DMV and waste time there.
There's really no benefit to waiting to start the class for the sole purpose of getting your permit or anything else. If you don't start class till 12/1, you can easily get your permit knocked out, the endorsement tests, TWIC, and possibly the Hazmat (before you even start class). Sure...you might not get those all on your permit, but at least they'll be knocked out so that when you graduate from the school...you can head off to a trucking company without delay. -
Your CDL will transfer but probably not the hazmat. I moved from Montana to Tx then a few years later to Arkansas. Both times I had to do the whole hazmat deal over. The written test, the background check, the fingerprinting and all the $$$ that you get to pay again. Was told that according to federal law, hazmat cannot transfer. Maybe it is different now, but I would make some calls to the license people and make sure before I spent the money.

Texas issued a temp hazmat license, when I turned in my Illinois CDL They give 90 days to get hazmated. New Jersey wont issue temp hazmat. I had to take the rest over again and get printed.
-
That was quick. My TWIC is in the mail (got an email from .gov today).
-
I told you man, it is REALLY quick if you go through the universal enrollment site and just go in to get things scanned, mine was approved within 2 hours from my appointment! lol
bubbagumpshrimp Thanks this. -
I did the on line part last week and the prints for HAZMAT & TWIC yesterday. Was a walk in took less then 15 min. They told me in about 3 weeks I should get my letters in the mail. Then I can take them with me when I get my new license to be added to it.
