So, I know this is about 10 or so months later, but I wanted to share even more news about my DOT physical journey, as it were.

Because I'd tested positive for sleep apnea (I think everyone does?) I ended up going through a program for weight loss surgery and had my surgery in June. From the time I'd gotten my 1 year card, I've since lost 100lbs. My surgeon asked me a series of questions about my current sleep patterns and habits and asked how I'm sleeping now and I'm honestly sleeping 100 times better than I was. He told me that in his professional medical opinion, that with my prior scores on the sleep apnea test, with my weight loss, and my current sleep results, that I likely don't have sleep apnea anymore. I've also been removed from all of my medications.

Upon telling all of this to my DOT examiner, she accepted it all and issued me a 2 year card today!

I thought for sure that my career was going to be ruined by this failed sleep test, but I never lied about it and found a way to work through it. Now, at a minimum, I have two years to continue my progress.

The kicker is that I'm currently going through the hiring process for a local job that pays really well. Initially, last week, they told me that I'd nailed the interview, have the experience that they're looking for, and that my next step would be going for a DOT physical and drug test at Concentra. I responded that I was very interested in the job and would love to work for them, but I'd never go to another Concentra again.

They responded that their protocol was to send drivers to Concentra, that they'd done it for the past 20 years and that if I refused, their job offer was rescinded.

I then responded "Well, I'm sorry to hear that, but I understand and good luck moving forward with other drivers!"

They then responded 7 hours later that they've agreed to change their stance on drivers going through Concentra and would accept my medical card from my own medical examiner.

It's a small victory, but life is good today!

Thank you to everyone that responded and tried to help me in this thread, I really appreciate everyone and the time you took to respond to me!

More truckers should stand their ground on Concentra. That outfit has ruined thousands of careers.

I accidentally admitted I took a sleep apnea test. My boss at the time wanted everyone to have a sleep apnea test for some reason. I did it and obviously didn't have sleep apnea. But when I told Concentra they kept digging in the issue even though I pass. Even contact my employer for proof that I had done the test and pass. My boss (not the same one) just said he will "accidently" forgot about the email.

A few weeks ago I had to renew my medical card. Didn't check the box that I had done a test, but this job I have doesn't really care what clinic I go to so I just went to the CVS and got a two-year card.

I don't know why some companies require certain clinic when it's our own DOT card our own medical card. We should be able to go to any clinic we want to. It's our responsibility to keep up with that and our license.

Everyone should do themselves one step better.
If a company wants your physical done at concentra, tell them no thanks unless they accept a physical from a much more reputable place that is not out to screw you, you insurance and anyone one else they can!
This should be common practice by all drivers by now no matter if your the type they want to pick on or not. Just like politicians if they abuse one groupe or type of person its only a matter of time till they find a way to screw the rest!

It's pathetic they give you the shiny brochure with their lover they make tons of money off of with referral's. Got a 3 month card with a finding of positive for obs. Everything perfect. overweight and light smoker. she asked me 8 questions which i answered no to and immediately says you have a positive screen for obs. lol. last week I went to a different place and got a 2 year card. Now my current company still wants me to do a sleep study. Not sure what to do?

If you didn't tell the second examiner about the first physical, that may be considered "Doctor shopping" and since both goes into the FMCSA database, you could have the second one tossed. @Moose1958 may know more on this.

Too many companies are pushing sleep apnea.
My nephew is about 6'2" and not overweight at all. He had sleep apnea and this fixed that problem.
This is what he did: www.inspiresleep.com
    No mask.
    No hose.
    Just sleep.™

There are a host of potential problems for this carrier if something were to happen to cause a legal investigation into the health of the driver. This is why most carriers won't have anything to do with anything that even smells of doctor shopping. You have 2 basic options. Get the sleep study or go find another job. The FMCSA will contact you if they have an issue with the MCSA-5850s sent in on you. @brian991219 might also want to opine on this.

I do agree I have no choice if I want to stay at my carrier, I'll have to take the sleep study. I passed all the tests, not to worried about a "judgement call based on your experience".
