that depends, could be days or as much as a week or 2 depending on trainer/truck availability

Yeah I live in Little Rock so I never had any problems getting home on time. They pretty much got me home the day I requested or earlier, no problem. As long as you live somewhere between Dallas, Chicago, New York, and Atlanta you will have no problem getting home on time. If you live outisde of these areas... like Florida, Kansas, or Maine, I hear you will have problems getting a load going home.
After training, you can usually go straight to your truck if there is one available. Otherwise you could be waiting a while. Just remember, the squeaky wheel gets the grease! If you don't hassle them about getting you a truck in time (but be nice about it) then they will take their sweet time. -
I live about 80 miles north of atlanta. Do they have a terminal in atl.

I also was going to ask you about orientation I am self employeed and have been for the last 12yrs I have had two phone interviews one before they approved me for school and one during school I told them on the phone both times when they asked about my ten year history and their has been no problems but I don't want to get to orientation and them say then that they need verification and I dont have it with me because I thought they would have surley checked all of that theirselves by now before they put any money out for me. I still have the last couple of tax returns but would have to send in to the IRS for all of my history which I can do it just takes time and I don't want to be caught off gaurd and have to wait even longer. I am just ready to go to work.
Thanks for letting me pick your brain. -
I go to take my road test tomorrow wish me luck. I hope I get spartanburg for my orientation because it's just four hours from my house.

I called on Tuesday morning and was on with the trainer on Tuesday afternoon at 3 pm,
I know that is not normal, but I am on day 2 of training, and everything is going great, My trainer is very active in getting me in the driver seat, and letting me back, into docks and even secure loads and do the paper work. I really like that he is working with me and not just sitting in the back. -
I am glad everything is going good for you and good luck. I know you got a trainer on tuesday but when did you finish orientation?
-
I'm not sure about your employment history, I can't tell you whats going to happen with that.
But the closest terminal in Atlanta is Spartanburg, SC. Although, they do have some drop yards in ATL and you could possibly drop your trailers there for your home time, I knew some drivers who did that. But we do get a ton of freight thru ATL and you should have no problem getting home on time. -
Thanks ErgoSum88 you have been very helpful and I'm sure I will lean on you some more as time goes by. I passed my test and have my class A and I am leaving sunday to go to spartanburg. I was glad to get spartanburg because it is so close to my house I am looking forward to getting my truck and starting on my own wish me well and I will keep you posted.
