Yeah this wind is brutal... I like USA don't really have that much trouble. I don't know anything firsthand about swift other than what i read. Of course I don't have to stick my hand in a fire to know that it will burn me either,Lol. The thing about USA to me is that we don't use paperless logs, we're still aloud to take our tractors home, we're not fined for things i read that other companies will fine you for. On the other hand they do not pay you for anything except miles, short ones at that. No brkdwn, layover, detention pay, ect. The quickest way to get fired up at USA is to breakdown, they are not for some reason in any kind of hurry to fix a problem, in my opinion this only leads to more problems such as people are more likely to drop a sh***y trailer as opposed to dealing with breakdown or maintnence. This can cause you alot of time if you pick up a couple of these trailers in the same week. Also i would say you're happiness will greatly depend on your relationship with FM. I happen to have a great one, as i should i work very hard training him on a daily bases,Lol. Get a good FM, dont have to deal with breakdown very often and you could actually like it here.

Hopefully I will sew this up tomorrow and get to Ohio around the 14th or 15th to get going on this stuff! I gotta get back to work. Don't they usually check you out before sending this application pre-approval letter, like DAC etc.? I was turned down by C.R. England for some BS from 20 years ago! I thought they all needed only the last 5 to 10 years of your history? THX!

Yes and No. Even though i know this does not totally apply to you as you have more experience than me i will throw this out there for all who reads, it seems to be a problem with alot of new drivers. Here goes, If you view yourself as hired before you are sitting first seat in your own assigned truck you might find yourself on here posting all sorts of "nice" things about whatever company you thought you were hired by. Right or wrong? moot point...regardless of what is told or implied your anniversary date is from the day you sign on inside of your truck. I did orientation then out with a "trainer"........ sorry i think i threw up a little bit in my mouth when i called that dude a trainer, anyhow and then i was assigned my truck. all time total, my badge has a hire date of 2-28-08 set my butt in the seat of my first truck 04-13-08. according to human resources my hire date was 04-13-08 that is also the date all of my raises,ins,401k,ect. is based on. so that is why i say you would be foolish to consider yourself hired before that point. I dont know why it's that way at any company. I mean you wonder if they just enjoy making ppl jump through hoops. I seen alot of ppl already be at orientation thought they were hired and get sent home. i've seen ppl be on the trainers truck get routed in and sent home, i've seen ppl go thru orient and training get sent home to wait for truck and it never happen. Yeah you would think before they wasted you're time and theirs something a little more concrete would be in place before you loaded the first bus but oh well.

I guess they like to waste money at times, as C.R. England had made me Greyhound bus reservations and all, then called me back to say their safety director turned me down! I said if I got my CDL in October how bad could it be! After all it is a federal license, go figure! Hopefully tomorrow I will get the green light with USA and roll! I as well requested a copy of the DAC from USIS to see just whats on it! I take it you have onboard E-Mail capabilities,or are you using a laptop with wi-fi?

Good luck Birdeye. I and most drivers I talk to like it here. You already know what to expect and hopefully they get you otr fast. Take care and be safe.

Thanks! Hopefully it will be a quick orientation 3-4 days and then into a truck, like I said I drove OTR swinging beef in the late 70's then Tanker Gasoline and Fuel Oil in the early 80's. Haven't driven since then and took 8 hours locally to get my CDL-A because back then my license was a class 1 I transferred it from Texas to NY since I logged over 500,000 miles. I guess maybe tomorrow i'll finally get an answer.......

I take it things didn't pan out with USA? Loads are getting scarce and the weather is getting brutal, looks like we're in for a long winter. Hope all goes well with Swift. Merry Christmas!
