I sold my last truck to a chap that did just this.
The chance of leasing on equipment as an operator with no experience is slim.

What did you sell? I’ve thought about it and decided the best choice for me is buy a 99 or older tractor and stay exempt and just run miles to pay for it all in 6-12 months. Anyone will insure anyone if they’re willing to pay the price and I am, I just wanna be sure I can run a lot of miles and not have anyone question it.
-
That right there.
Get the "I gotta get miles" idea out of your head. I'll take a 200 mile $1200 load over a 1000 mile $2000 load any and every day of the week. -
Please explain what you mean by this.OLDSKOOLERnWV Thanks this.

I’m gonna buy a truck outright

We’re talking lease (onto a company), not lease a truck per say.

OK.
This is what I'm going to base my opinion on, you need to drive for a company for a while, forget the idea of owning your own truck until you learn what's what in this industry.
It seems that you don't seem to get that no matter which way you go, the insurance costs is going to be high, the truck age is irrelevant but your lack of experience is to the actuaries and their risk tables. The easiest and best route is drive for a company that can absorb the costs and the risk for a few years in exchange of real experience.
This isn't your daddy's industry any more.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
I know the insurance is gonna be high. I’m looking at something older so I don’t need no electronic logs. I know there’s 100% responsibility on maintenance and insurance, tags.... Maybe I’ll look at other options if it’ll be that difficult. Last thing I wanna do is drop $25k on a truck that’s gonna sit if no ones gonna let me pull a trailer. I know it’s not “my daddy’s industry” anymore but watching the changes from growing up holding a wheel to what it is now. Just sucks that no one takes drivers without experience, even if it’s pre-cdl driving

This buissness is run by the insurance companies now. Have my own truck at a small carrier and had my CDL since 1992. I have checked on my own authority insurance and 2 of the 5 turned me down cold. I have great credit and a clean driving record. 3 years OTR experience.
I’m sure our carriers insurance would not allow us to hire you even for a company truck. Not us, but our insurance company.
State you live in will have a huge factor on you getting and affording insurance.Lepton1 Thanks this.
