    Academics is the problem. In Yankee schools we were taught that the civil war was fought mostly over slavery. The victors writing the history books is the problem.

    Technically it was how the Bible was "understood" at the time in regards to slaves.

    I always heard it was fought because the southern states seceded and had no constitutional right to do so. They also fired on Fort Sumter which was a union base.

    In school it was taught the Civil War was started over states' rights and slavery was secondary.
    And I went to a Yankee school...;)
