Rand McNally Support Thread. (Part 3)

Hey Mark i put most of the information in my earlier post. That the GPS does not charge well. It sometimes shows it charging but the unit shuts off on its own and then when tried to power back on it says no battery's. It worked fine for a while when I first got it using only the magnetic charging mount and cable that came with the GPS. And then the charging mount wasn't showing the slide charging all the time. I then started plugging in the cable to only the GPS and the same problem happened later on. I then for the third time decided to plug a cable into the GPS and another in the charging mount. Worked for a little and now has the same issues. Shows charging but powers off unexpectedly on its own and then shows a dead battery. I have to now only use it periodically and shut it off intentionally so that I can still have some use out of it when needed.
From what I've heard on a regular Google search the battery issue is a common problem.

I was hoping since you work for McNally you would have the insight as to why they are having these issues?

I really like the product but with it's pricetag find it to be a kick in the nuts to only get one years use out of it before having issues.

I've had another issue where the unit once in a blue restarts itself to default settings Wich is a pain cause I have it setup the way I want.
So used to the menus and settings now I could be basic software troubleshooter for McNally.

Not sure if want to try another McNally product or try another brand. Just has me. It worried.
I still have my car gpa that's 10years old and works fine.

 

Still trying to get an answer on the TRAFFIC feature for the 740.
Will it ever work???

 

Yes, Automatic Date & Time is giving me the incorrect time so I had to switch to manual to change it. I just switched it back to auto and it's retaining my set time for now. But when I power cycle it will go back to being 2009.

 

My 740 also reset date to 2009 whenever the battery died. On automatic date & time for several hours, it remained on 2009 with incorrect time. A typical power cycle without a dead battery did not lose time/date setting.
