So I'll know for sure come early next week, but some opportunities came up and decided to take one and I think I was the only person who applied so that also helped, but I was able to be put on a night transit job at GFS. Probably start that in the next month or so. Come the new year if I'm right and I think I am I'm not going to be throwing cases anymore.

Good luck. Throwing cases can be a rough gig.

Had a Will-Call pickup (dock pickup) show up the other day. Customer sent out a driver to pick up three IBC totes using a Ford Transit van.

My dock supervisor first laughed cause he thought they were trying to prank us then realized he was serious. "Ummm... No sir, we aren't loading you like this. Come back with a truck and trailer".

Each of the three totes weighs 2,700 lbs and the van is kinda visible in the background.

    Good call.

That may fly in a dually van, but definitely not in that thing.

Allright I wanna get a gauge of how far p&d drivers are willing to go (I'm a pushover) do y'all take pallets (I do), do y'all take it to the garage (easy), take it through packed gravel (occasionally), help uncrate it (I've a pry bar), take tips ( most definitely!)?

When I did P&D, yes. All of that. That’s one of the things I liked about P&D - the service.

When do you say no though? Inside houses? Back into residential driveway? Go into a questionable farm driveway (soft dirt)?

Wow that's the most loaded question I've seen on here. But I'd say mostly yes to everything.

It's safe to say that most of us are happy to accommodate the consignee as much as possible, but the reality is we are are just as happy to get rid of your freight as they are anxious to receive it.

Unless the packaging is damaged, I will not stick around to unbox your stuff, but that is just me.

This is a no crap story, and in the 10 years or so that I've been on here I've told this before. I worked for USF Reddaway and I had a coworker that had to do a residential delivery. It was a refrigerator/freezer that went to some old lady's house and per company policy we did curbside delivery. And of course most of us place it into the garage since it was snowy outside.

This lady was like '"hey, I am old and frail, is there any way you can wheel it into my house?" My coworker being the nice guy that he was explained that we don't do inside residential deliveries, but then didn't think much of it and agreed and wheeled the stupid thing through the door, down the hallway, and into her kitchen.

Not even two stops later his cell phone went off; it was the dispatcher going "hey Doug, did you seriously just do an inside delivery on that residential? Cause she claims your hand truck damaged her carpet and we are now on the hook to replace it".

And yes, we were on the hook to recarpet two rooms. Not only is this a true story but it is my coworker's that he told me as a cautionary tale. I am shocked he didn't get fired.
